Two Coleman 200A Lanterns In Two Days - Now #3! on Page 6!

Lanterns, stoves, etc... anything old!

Postby teardrop_focus » Fri Apr 23, 2010 12:27 am

My '56 keeps wanting to light itself on fire...

:cigar:

I went to bed last night pretty disappointed about it.

Woke up (laid off and between assignments) and studied the link I posted earlier of Shaun's... then I called Bob Hitchcock about what parts I might need... he spent almost 20 mins w/ me while other phones of his were ringing... talked me out of some stuff and sold me a couple of generators, a stem assembly (for the '62) and a couple of fuel cap gaskets.

Long story short, I was able to, between talking to him and what I'd read of the rebuild of a 200A, get the '56 up to snuff!

Upon reassembly, I pressure tested it twice along the way. Then it lighted instantly from just 20 strokes, and performs better now than it did before.

Needless to say I'm quite happy about THAT. :eyebrows:

George, Johnny called about the military lantern; it sold pretty quickly from what the fella on the other end of the phone told him. I'm not surprised.

Military Lanterns

Postby eamarquardt » Fri Apr 23, 2010 12:47 am

I've been holding back some info. Years ago, being in the USMC, we actually used these lanterns. I thought the coolest part (and difference between them and the civilian lanterns)was that the globes were not one piece, but in quadrants. These seemed more resistant to breaking and you could replace a quarter of a globe instead of a whole globe.

Cheers,

Gus

Gus...I can't remember when the date was, but the Korean version was a single globe, etched with US Army...they changed by the Vietnam era. The quadrants are cool though! Doug

Gus, you're entitled to do so. Even if you'd had a military in your box there, I would've deliberately passed it over because, A. I wasn't ready, B. I had eyes only for the diminutive redheads.

I'm in love w/ these lil' things. When they run right, I run right. Kinda like me and cars.

Doug! I'm workin' on it! Three of the 200A, then one each of the other!

:dancing

KEVIN! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHHHHHH! Those're BEAUTIFUL!

I'm going insane with desire!

Thanks for posting those pics!!! Pls bring those to Pamplin Grove!

:worship:

Chris...now that you are ready for the 252 Military's...how about the 242's....gotta have one or 6 of them....Here's what's in the house. These are also bullet proof, been around since the late 30's, parts still available, run like a champ and aren't overpowering on the light....Doug

I have eyes for only one. She's a diminutive 5'2" and brown topped.

Cheers,

Gus

And right you are, sir!

Funny... the first lantern that piqued my interest here in adulthood recently was a pic of the two-mantle Centennial edition, with it's green vent and chrome fount. Wanted one of those... but wanted, as I've said earlier, a single-mantle. Now that I know about the 242s (Paul/hotrod posted a pic of one he owns in another thread), those will be in my sights as well. We'll see.
