The 200A is one of the most popular lanterns ever made. Yours looks like a newer one. Somewhere in the 70's. You will want to pick up a 200A5891 generator and some #21 mantles for it. Besides that, clean it up and enjoy. I found both at my local Ace Hardware.

I just spent some time on Ebay tonight....Those red 200's are like GOLD. The prices people are willing to pay for some of the crap out there is unbeleivable. An the price they are paying for the good stuff....... :?

I agree John....and what I don't get is that the older 242's were much more of a lantern than the 200's, stainless and nickel, no aluminum parts and paint! Go figure? I've gotten 242's for under 20$ and are an easy cleanup/resto. Guess they just gotta have red!

Jeremy posted a question over on the Coleman forum regarding what constitutes a "professional" lantern. The reply was that it (the 200) was a cheaper lantern to produce than the original 242's which were almost the same lantern, except they (the 242) had stainless and nickel. Over time, the response was that customers began complaining that the 200's weren't as durable and would start rusting. Coleman re-introduced the 200 with the same materials as the 242 and branded it the 202 Professional.

I guess it's sort of like the New Coke vs the Classic Coke thing! I wonder if some Coleman exec. got canned over the decision....probably not, as the 200's had a long production run, they just came up with a "deluxe" lantern. Doug

Danny, you are kinda comparing apples to oranges. I believe the the 200A was the longest and most common produces lantern by Coleman USA. The one on your link is a fairly rare, never fired, lantern made by Coleman Canada.

I would have to agree with Micro on his statement on the 200A's on eBay. For some reason the 200A seem to sell better than other models. I prefer the older nickel lanterns or the blue Sears stuff.

Here is my 202 (left) & 242C (right) The 202 is 1955 & the 242 is 1949.

That's a nice lantern John....and if you get it, and decide to get the original mica globe for it, they are available. It'll work fine without it. I've got one for my Quiklight...really a nice touch to a vintage lantern. Note that it does have an external pump...I didn't see that it came with that. They can be picked up on E-bay fairly regularly. A pump is pretty much a pump if it doesn't have a threaded end on it. I use the pump from my Handy Chef to pump up my Quiklight. Doug

Beautifull lanterns. I want one. I don't have to buy from Ebay tho. There's a guy in town that has a garage full of lanterns and stoves. I just have to round up some cash... And I found another guy in Newmarket.. about an hour away that is selling off his collection of lanterns........ again, i just have to round up some cash.....
I f and when I go to see them... anybody have any orders???? :lol:
I'll just charge you what i paid for them....Plus shipping of course..... :roll:
