I painted it before I was a Coleman Keeper.

well....you can always repaint!! In all your spare time!!

Just get the thing usable so you can to to the Dam!!! Doesn't have to be perfect, just get it able to go on the road!!

It looks good..2 doors, huh? Good idea! I was offered a second door for mine..probably should have taken it, but I don't want to change the look of the Grasshopper.

I saw that on your build plans but didn't realize you used that design...that is amazing!! I saw your fabric that you had made by spoonflower (?) and it was fantastic. I checked their site for some fabric for my neighbor's Scamp...found some great stuff there.

So how did you get the "Stewart" for your Green Lantern? decal/vinyl sticker? Or did you paint it on???

I'm asking because: It would be cool to have "Coleman Keeper" stickers made, and because I need the graphics redone on my Grasshopper.

Too bad you guys aren't coming out for the Dam...I'll have to check on IRG dates to see if I can make it..I've got to see this in person. That is so cool!

hey guys...I got an assortment of paint last night for my very small Coleman collection..Couldn't locate any primer that is high temp, but got the appropriate silver paint for the frame, etc. Got both greens Doug mentioned and a red. And primer for the founts.

Got some great fabric for the new curtains in the Grasshopper on ebay..looks even better in person! Matches the outside stripes better than the original. Now I'm thinking about re-doing the cushions. I don't really like the original brown/rust plaid...too dark and hard to match. And if I'm recovering I might as well just get some new foam and do it right..the old foam is probably starting to fall apart (just guessing..it's 30+ years old!)

No luck in thrifts today in the way of Coleman. I'll check out more tomorrow.

Last night a friend said to use BBs and break cleaner in the fount to get the varnish out. Has anyone done this? I've heard of carb cleaner for varnish, but break cleaner? Isn't that overkill? He said the carb cleaner here in CA has been 'dumbed down' for environmental reasons and doesn't work well. But then he's not into lanterns..just motorcycles.

It is a giant vinyl graphic that I had printed by a local sign shop - way better than what i could do with paint. ;)

I just use paint thinner because its cheap. Really any liquid would do, barring water, and the bbs of course. Its the bbs that do the work, they scrub it clean inside.

Use lots of bbs the more the better. Just leave room for the shooka shooka.

Whoa, Just had something strange happen to me here that would probably only happen to Coleman addict. I was setting here at the computer when the phone bell thinks. Just like it does when the power is fixing to go out. A sec latter the computer sputters and dies. And for a second or so it just didn't register as the lights didn't got out.

Oh yea, I have the 200A kerosene conversion running.

Now talk about being prepared.

It was off for just a few minutes this time. Wind is really kicking up out there right now. who knows how long the power will stay on tonight.

I use water and BB's for most of the first cleanouts. That way I can dump out the crud without using harsh chemicals I need to get rid of. After the water starts coming out clean (Not so much rust and such) I then switch to what ever chemical I have to use.
That's just my two cents.

Lee you are correct. I was just thinking that someone might leave water in the tank. When I use the paint thinner I capture and reuse the mess. I have cleaned several founts and tanks with the same bb thinner milkshake.

I have a 5 gallon bucket in my shop I dump my paint thinner and other like stuff into. Then after the waiting long enough for the big cunks to settle out I use a dipper to dip up some to clean auto and other such greasy stuff. Then back in the bucket it goes. Who knows what is really in that bucket. I started it almost 10 years ago.

It is now something like the Wizard's wooden tub in "The Wizard of ID".

Oh, the power was off again. For about 1/2 hour it time. Had enough time to fuel up and fire up my birthday lantern to add to the 200 Kerosene. And look out my window to see only black where my neighbor's lights should be.

When I did the BBs and shooka shooka, I used what smelled like gasoline...the stuff I poured out of the same lantern earlier. It was a little green, but other than that, it had no chunks of stuff in it.

It was fun getting the BBs out. There is a method to it, for sure!

Then I evaporated that gas off. Poured it out in a shallow pan and let it evap. When I get the dang thing apart I'll see what I'm dealing with..but I think it's varnish and corrosion. Hopefully I can get it cleaned up and ready to light again!
