Kinda reminds me of sitting up at Wolf Creek...late at night a group of old "gas heads" staring at a bunch of lanterns running and BS'ing about them...Jeez...we need to get a life huh? Doug

Well, a good cigar doesn't hurt huh? ;) I'm looking forward to a good lantern "light up". I'll drag a number up I'm sure and any of you other "gas heads" that have one...bring it/them along and lets really put on a light show! Doug

Hey guys was over at Coleman Outlet store near me and happened to go back to the lantern section they have. I noticed a single mantle "New" Heritage series lanterns. They had been $100 dollars and more but had been marked down to $59. I know eveyones into colloecting the old ones but what I checked and did see was the replacement globes for these single mantle lanterns. They were $8 and look just liked the ones on the older ones, I checked because the outlet has a bunch of old single and doubles hanging on a lil decorated building on one side of the store. They also had replacement inner parts like the pumps and seal. The Lanterns came out originally in 2007 so these were left overs.

A glance into the far reaches of cyberspace has revealed:

Lookit that, wouldja... a brand-schpankin'-new 200. Nice!

Even at that marked-down price, the old ones are more appealing if only for the fact that you can still find some of them in decent mechanical shape for $10 at garage sales, etc. All they usually need are a little going-over and a little rubbin' on.

What would Our Beloved Old Gas-Heads say if we were to turn up at a gathering w/ a brand-new piece?

It's all good! I was at the local hardware store today and in their camping section...all they had were battery powered lanterns, 1 with one of those swirly fluorescent bulbs in it....Now that is just not right! I like how they marketed the smaller one. "personal" battery lantern. Keep an eye out for the last liquid fueled lantern...sadly, I'll bet it's not far off. Doug

PLASTIC

Postby eamarquardt » Sun Apr 25, 2010 6:44 pm

One of the newer lanterns I picked up has a plastic bushing/retainer for the pump rod to travel through. Plastic=not as good IMHO. I'm sure the new one shares this "upgrade". What happens if the lantern catches on fire just a bit, plastic melts. How many plastic spare parts does one carry?

Cheers,

Gus

Well, I have a bitch, too.

I was noticing earlier... look at the air intake tube on that new single-mantle! It's crimped, not mandrel-bent like the old ones might have been... granted, we're not shooting for a maximum cubic-feet-per-minute airflow requirement... that is not until we start hotrodding these things... hahaha... you've seen what people have done with chainsaws used in lumberjack competition... let's turn these 350 and 500 candlepower lanterns into mega-1000 candlepower machines! Arrrrr! Just kidding.

That's a nasty-looking crimp, though... and, look! a plastic pump bore cap! Wrong!

:fb

 I could not agree more! I use 40W and 60W frosted soft white incandescents at home... I abhor cfls... not to mention the disposal issue...

I don't mind bigger (traditional long tube) flourescents in the shop, especially when they're closer to either a tungsten or daylight color temperature.

When cfls are designed to give off something closer to 3200 degrees Kelvng color temperature (tungsten) and warm-up time is greatly reduced is when I'll seriously consider using them in my home. But how by many watts have I reduced my usage compared to my low-wattage tungstens? Not many...

Then someone's had too much beer. That's a pretty big fire, and you lose your lantern privileges for the weekend. That's when we hand over the lanterns to George. That is, if he hasn't already gone to bed.

See ya'll are a bad influence here. Spent last couple of hours looking for coleman stuff and located 3 stoves for $12 a piece over in Greenville, SC and even been looking on Ebay. Chris did see one ad thought you might be interested in though.
