Picked up this 1949 242C this morning at an estate sale for $6. The vent is perfect, unfortunately, it has a chunck out of the globe, but for $6, I couldnt say no. :D

Yeah Paul, I have another 47 242C with the original globe and another 242 that is in a parts box awaiting a globe and a decent vent. Im sure I will come across a globe in my searches. I just hate to put a Made in China one on there. They are neat little lanterns. Tom (TLC) just picked up that nice one too. Feels good to find a nice one!

Not to worry on the globe....just find another 40's beater with a globe and swap it in. I take out all my vintage globes and put them aside. Some of them can almost be worth more than the lanterns they are riding in. I lost a globe in a lantern on a trip up the coast...fortunately it was a new one. I saved the original at home. Also...you can get the mica shades for the 242's, really gives it a nice vintage look and they can take more punishment than the glass ones. Doug

PS...at 6$ you should be arrested....you stole that one.

Thanks Doug. I have couple lanterns that need rebuilds that have old globes, so whenever its sitting in display mode, Ill use one of those in it. Ill use a replacement when I take it camping. I need to build a universal box to use for transporting. They are all slightly different sizes, so the Coleman cases arent very useful, unless you have a dozen of them, which would eat up museum space. Cant do that!!!
