Been a little slow on picking up anything lately, but then 2 weeks ago, I hit a threesome, at different sales.
First was a Svea 123 (which I had never heard of until that moment) for $1. I just bought it because it was so cute. Then I got it home and found out all the parts are there and all it needs is a good cleaning and polishing.

Then my neighbor was having a rummage sale and he told me to come the day before and see if there was anything I wanted. I almost said no, but then I seen a Coleman box. I looked inside and there were 4 Coleman 550 sunshine of the night, green letter 200A globes, that had never seen daylight!! $2 each!

and lastly a 275 turd, pretty clean but with a crack in the globe for a buck!
Was a decent weekend after all! Felt good to score a few things.

Nice! I'd like to find one of those 123 stoves, they're cool and really small. Hard to find in the wild. Every collection needs at least one Turd, and they do run good when they're right. And those globes- SCORE!!!!!!

it's been slow for finds around here too lately.

Shaun, got any tips for lighting the 123? I never tried one before and I'm sure I will screw it up!

I wish I did, haven't had the chance to light one yet either. All I know is I haven't heard any horror stories so maybe they are like most other stoves. If I can find anything on them I'll sure let you know though.

Neat!

I had a 123 back in the early 70s. They were the backpacking stove at the time... dunno where mine went and it's been far too long to remember how... wait!

Part of the priming process was to literally hold the fount in both hands to warm it... no kidding. Once fuel started flowing, I believe you could light it then it would come to temp. I don't remember there being a pump of any kind...

Thanks for the link! I know they do have a pump for them (ebay) but I heard they are not needed to use the stove! Ill check out the links and fire it up after I get it cleaned up a little. Kind of excited to see if it works. Thanks!

Yer welcome...

I remember more of mine, now. It was the earlier version that had the jet-cleaning wire in the handle of (a) wrench, if I recall.

To get it to prime, put a few drops of fuel in the depression on the top of the fount, light it and burn it off. That heats the fount...

Mine has the jet cleaner tool too. Its folded up inside the tool on the right. The other "L" piece is just a handle for the pot.

dawn, have you considered getting a check valve removal tool? You're hooked on this hobby more than enough to warrant the cost lol. About $30 and you'll never cuss a valve again (at least for being stuck)

Sure. Now you remind me I forgot to buy one. Gonna take the fount to my dad's and see if he has an easy out thingy. Actually he probably has 2 of every size. (That man has more tools than anyone you have ever seen)
I'm not kidding

Dawn...it takes a #4 EZ out to remove one. For me, the price of the removal tool seemed a bit high for something that probably isn't going to be reusable after it's removed anyway. I just pull it, and put in a new one. I do have a modified spade bit that I will try first...but if it's a no go...this takes care of it in a hurry.

I welded an EZ out to a bolt, and all it takes is a 9/16 wrench to remove it. If you don't/ can't weld it up...get an 8 point socket that fits and put it on an extension.

Dobyman....wonderful score...especially on the globes. I've got a Svea 8R that I haven't clowned around with yet....Someone want it? It's yours for postage. Doug
