Are These Vintage?

I'd most forgotten I had these, a 222A lantern and 440A stove. They're both from 1985 and were some of my first camping equipment. The stove fired right up after sitting for 6 years or so. The lantern needs a new pump cup and a generator (on order) but fired up after a little tweaking. The lantern always was a bit touchy when lighting. I had forgotten how much I like these, think I'll throw them in the camper and use them in the coming year.

I would not call them vintage myself. Don't ask me to define vintage. It is something like pornography, I know it when I see it.

But at lest they are not profane fueled.

They do look good, ready and raring to go camping again. Enjoy.

Are These Vintage?

I can't answer that one because I don't know what whomever named this subforum had in mind...

But I will say that they're over 25 years old, AND, perhaps most importantly, both of those Coleman gas pressure devices are the last models to have metal pump escutcheons! Shortly thereafter, Coleman started using PLASTIC. Fail.

I have that lantern and stove, too; but a few years' prior. They're both brown. The lantern is a 222 and uses #20 mantles... and my stove is a Model 400. They both work great!

I'm gonna start carrying them in my car, year-round! Yeah, that's the ticket!

:R

What part is plastic?

I'm heading to an estate sale in the morning to look for more stuff to add to my future estate sale. Then to the big city of Twin Falls to check out the thrift shops for items that smell of naphtha. I stopped at one today and brought home a 413 G. Fired right up on the gas that was still in the tank. $6. It is a bit dented but not to bad.

Not really vintage yet, but at least they are white gas rather than profane. We won't kick you out of the vintage club.

You know I'm kind of glad they're not. I don't want anything I've bought brand new to be vintage yet. I like the idea of throwing them in the truck, I've been thinking I need a bug out bag and they would be perfect for that.

Maybe not 'vintage', but good pieces Bruce.
I have one of those stoves that I got from Doug, been watching for the matching lantern to complete the set.

No worries here Doug! I'm currently taking a casual approach to collecting, when the time is right one will come along. I know what you're saying about stoves, need to sort a few out myself. The stacks are getting a bit out of control lol.

Hey Slow Cowboy

What month is that 1950 500? I have a 500 Stove from 1953 B

My birthday is sep 1950. I now have a 220 Lantern made in B 1950, seems they made 220 lanterns that year in A and B. Though I have seen other items with a month number. And in other years I have seen either a C or a D but I have not noticed those to much. I have another 220 lantern from Dec 1952. They sure liked to mix things up back then.

:D

I got the new pump cups installed and it made a huge difference. Just like new. I put the new generator on and noticed it was a 13mm nut holding it on. What the?? I would have bet a jelly donut it was a 1/2" but nope, 13mm flair nut. It does say Made in Canada on it. Oh well, the lantern burns like a champ now, ready for the camping season.

I usually keep a little can of 3in1 oil and oil the pumps rather often. So far I have only replaced 2 pump leathers. One of those in a lantern from 1927. The original still worked but it was a hit and miss thing. The other was in a 425 stove from the mid eighties that I have used a lot. So far I have not replaced a generator on any Coleman stuff.
