Tupelo Sue came by tonight to pick up some parts for a piece of furniture that I had reworked for her as she was in Sacramento. I knew that she had something for me from Randy to use for the dutch oven...an old disk as a base. What I didn't know is that he slipped in a Coleman 3H as well. He brought it down to Burning Man and gave it to her there.

It needs a bit of body work along with a total resto...but it's a real honey but that's to be expected on an 83 year old stove! Thanks Randy, I really appreciate your thinking about me. I'm surprised you'd give up a cast iron burner model! What's nice is that it has the original tank on it. Those stoves are real cookers.

In the background is the disk....it's a 24" so plenty of cooking room on it....maybe with some taller legs...it's a portable campfire.

Wow nice Job Randy, what is the disk from?? I was thinking of using a Dish net dish for the same thing but it is a lot smaller. Which one of your stoves are you going to start on first Doug?

The hot plate is well on it's way....all is done except the porcelain work and the decals....here's a pic of it tonight...I'll put in the manifold and build a fire in it tomorrow. Doug

That really looks great, Doug. Can you imagine being a camper in the 1930's and going to the hardware store, buying the stove, bringing it home and taking it out of the box all shiny new-looking like that! Sometimes wish these vintage stoves/lanterns could tell their stories... Great work on the restore!

You are very welcomed Doug. I wanted to make sure the stove was treated right. Sounds like you have a whole mess of projects on the shelf, should keep you out of trouble.

Cliff, the disk if from a cultivator. It is a rolling shield, not made to turn soil but to keep soil from cultivating tools from covering small crops. The metal is lighter than a soil turning disk but a lot heavier than a satellite disk. They don't really wear out but occasionally they break in the center where they are fastened to the bearing. So far this is the only one I have seen. I need to start asking around for more as I feel they make a great DO stand. Last summer I used this one to build a fire in ( on top of an iron sheet about 18 inches high) for a hot dog roast at our family reunion. It worked good for that also. I also have some tillage disks for that. I been doing these hot dog roasts every year for about 20 years now. The city kids get a real kick out of it. With my equipment I can now make a fire any place we have the reunion and not depend on the equipment the camp may or may not have. I also cut a mess of willow sticks. I like the little kids to use a willow stick instead of a factory wire stick, cuts down on the burning of little fingers of little kids. Adults, I don't care if they grab a hot wire. phfffffft.
