371 Hot Plate all done....

Postby doug hodder » Sun Oct 16, 2011 4:19 pm

After some fiddling around with generator a bit...I couldn't remove the spring from it, maybe it will now after it's done a couple of heat cycles, I tap them with a wrench when running to see if it changes the flame...if it does there's crud in it....it came to life. The fuel air tube and generator are considerable larger in this stove over any of the others I've played with. Can't wait to get the porcelain redone and the decals on it, and cook up some sort of hold down clamp for the burners, I'm thinking maybe a modified small conduit clamp....Doug

How much dose it differ from the 413 B? The burner and the tank look like the 413

I think the burner manifold is the same...but the fuel air tube and the generator are considerably larger than on the 413 series. It's sort of a fuel hog I think...the pump has the same diameter as the other stoves, but the stroke on it is 6". Doug

Now dont go telling me I can tap on stuff and make it work. Because that translates into beat it with a hammer. I will do it, I swear. :hammer:

stove

Postby doitright » Sun Oct 16, 2011 11:22 pm

Thanks Doug you did it again brought back another great part of history. The stove looks great. If a stove like that was used in the house at one time what did they use for a oven? I used my 413 B this weekend at a fall Boy Scout camp out and it worked great lots of heat only used it for boiling water . We use mostly dutch ovens. Let me tell you it worked great and realy works better than the ones they sell today and puts the profame ones down.

Mostly an automotive acrylic urethane...not necessary though, but I like it because it will clean up easier after cooking than a rattle can paint and has a better gloss. On a stove box, just a rattle can paint is fine. It will handle the temps as long as you don't run it full tilt with a large pot on the burner. The tank on this one is Rustoleum copper. Doug

I dunno about rare...hard to come by yup.....I don't see any available at yard sales and very few on E-bay and I'd think that as soon as the market for small nat. gas and electric stoves developed and products were available, everyone junked these. Or donated them for the war effort in scrap iron drives. It's not as portable as a regular camp stove, so it's use was sorta limited to fixed places. I don't know of any production numbers. Doug

Update...it's next to impossible to determine exactly what year this was produced, but depending on the exact year...production numbers were between 8K and 17K units, that's as close as I can get with it.

It looks like you got the dent out of the tank. Very nice.
