Not sure what it is called but one of the 4 vertical strips that are tack welded has come loose. What would be the best/easy way to fix it? Or just let it go?

The most obvious but not cheapest is to find a shop that has the ability to re weld it.
Being " thrifty " myself I drilled one part with a clearanse hole and the other part with a hole sized to accept the tap #o-80 machine screw.
So far this has worked for me.

I would look for a donor lamp. I may even have one. That is the Big Hat model. If you are interested PM me. I bought a beat lamp for 2 bucks that was painted green. I can check out the cage condition Monday. You can have the cage if you pay the postage.

Thanks for the offer,Let me try to get a good tack on it and see how it works first. Has anybody ever media blasted and electroplated or just use high temp. paint?

I bead blast them and use the Rustoleum VHT silver paint. You can also do the citric acid treatment on it for the rust, unless it's got real rot.

The Rustoleum gives a nice looking light gray...not a shiny appearance, I think the real shiny stuff doesn't hold up to spilled fuel as well and any handling will make it look funky real fast.

Plating is going to run you a bunch of $$ unless you plan on doing it yourself with some of the "shade tree" methods. Doug

Plating aint that big of deal we have a small 220 volt brush/sock style electroplating machine at work as long as they have the chemicals its all good.

I have been using the same paint Doug wrote about. It seems to hold up very well.
