information needed on lighting a coleman lamp. so hiroshema

Lanterns, stoves, etc... anything old!

They light just like the older lanterns. I like to preheat the generator with a mini torch before lighting.

Ok, This is not bad. The user has installed an alcohol preheating cup. You want to preheat the generator before you ever crack the valve open. Like Jeremy said I like to use a micro torch for preheating.

That's not the same thing Sharon. Use that procedure on a lamp and there will be fire!

Oh... I didn't know there was a difference. I had always thought that if you've seen one, you've seen 'em all. So, a Coleman lamp is not the same as a Coleman lantern? No wonder Slow asked!

...I guess you could say I am clueless...or, is it Colemanless?

I like a nice clean, effortless battery. If I am camping alone, I go into my tent or trailer when it gets dark and don't come out until morning. If I'm with a group, I stay up but they supply the light and the campfire. I'm not too proud to admit it. :)

Sharon - You should start out with a model 288 lantern. It is a newer model that is very easy to light, has a somewhat small stature, and will adjust from dim to very bright. The 288 is a gateway lantern, the gateway to being a Coleman Keeper!

 I've got plenty of friends. I'll give them the pleasure of carrying and messing with that thing! After all, if I start on Colemans, you'll have more competition at buying those guys!

You didnt say no. I think you want to. Some sooner some later but, I think, all will fall for white gas If you hang here long enough.

I tried the white gas and went to propane, then battery. Then the Coleman Keepers exposed me to the white gas again. Now I'm lost...

I still have battery for the inside of the tent and trailers..and it's super easy. But I do use the propane at the campsite on the table, etc. I just got my lantern yesterday and need to brush up on how to light it, since I haven't done such a thing for probably 20 years.

Preheating...maybe that is why I had so many mantle failures as a kid? Drove me crazy, and I was so dang careful. I'll need to check out what I need to pick up today to preheat. I want to get my new to me lantern glowing soon!!

So then I can go out and buy MORE!!!!

Yes, it's contagious.
