Postby DragonFire » Sun Nov 20, 2011 8:08 pm

Hopefully these pictures will turn out large enough for you to see...this is my first try at posting pictures here. I'll post the 200a pics and if all goes well I'll finish uploading the 220f pics and get them posted.

Thanks guys!! I'll post the not-so-nice lantern next....please let me know what I can do to get it in better shape. I bought the last pump repair kit at Walmart today just in case you think it needs it....and I think it does due to the leakage marks down the side of the fount.

No, that didn't come out in the right order!!

The picture under the comment about the fuel leak marks shows it.

Lemme know what you think.

Not all lanters need a complete re do. For most lanterns I start with making it work. Once I know it works, i put it on the working lantern shelf. Rebuilding can come later. Just make the thing work first. Thats what I do. Working lanterns ugly or not are progress in my book. 8)

Everyone needs a few lanterns that you just use. Ones you dont have to baby. So its good to have lanterns that are good workhorses with scratches and missing paint. Who needs a bunch of shelf queens? 8)

This is one I plan on using.

Do you think it's safe to attempt to fire it up the way it is? I mean, after I replace the mantles and put fuel in it, of course!

And what about preheating the generator? I haven't done that in the past, so what do you do? Does it just make the mantles burn out correctly when you put new ones on?

It's been a long time since I've fired up a white gas lantern. Long time. But I got a lantern lighter today at Walmart. What the heck? Might as well get that too!

I would try to light it. I bet it will work.

I have a little torch I pre heat all generators that have not burned in a while.
Burn the new mantles then turn on the gas SLOWLY. Have fire near the mantles when you turn on the gas. For the first time do it without the glass or vent on.

I'm thinking it would, but maybe not well. The inside of the hat is totally black with soot. I'll do a little cleaning and maybe attempt to fire it up over the weekend..

Maybe I should light the 200 first...it's probably safer...

The 200 will be more temperamental, in my opinion. The 2 mantle will be more "friendly". 8)

you shouldn't need to preheat the gen.

Why do people preheat then? I don't want to, I just thought it might keep me from screwing up mantles. Although when I was using my gas lantern before I went battery I never screwed up mantles. Maybe because I'm not 7 anymore??? Stupid kid! Everything was good until I couldn't get both mantles to burn out evenly..one would always get a hole or crinkle up and get a hole..

I thought the 200 might be easier because it only has one mantle. I can handle one, but have had troubles with 2. Hopefully I've finally outgrown it!

Pickled eggs, dry granola and mantles. The three things I hate about camping. Oh, and canned raviolis. Those were nasty too! Changed the food, but stuck with the mantles! Rats!
