I landed a 242

Lanterns, stoves, etc... anything old!

I landed a 242

Postby campmaster-k » Sun Nov 20, 2011 10:03 pm

My brother and I were talking last week about Coleman stuff, shocker I know, specifically getting a 242 lantern. My brother started calling people who he thought might have old Coleman and found a guy willing to part with this. I traded him a 413 g for it.

Next is a pic of the little Thermos Vixen, Western Field. I worked on it most of the day. There is no pump only a schrader valve. I did get it to light but it is a temperamental, mantel blowing cuss.

Next is a Coleman Recovery update.

And lastly afew of you wanted a closer look at the Hondas.

I think Honda 70 qualify as vintage camping equip?

I love honda 70s almost as much as Colemans. But I am going to sell them off. I need room and we never ride any more. I may keep one just for fun.

WOW!!! you would trade your Coleman stuff for the red one??? Yikes! You must really want it!

They are nice bikes..I like the gold one, just because it's so 70's. But I'm into scooters..unlike 'ol Lazybones who has one, or two, or three or....I only have one modern one..fuel injected and the whole bit. But it is a Vespa, so it still looks like a scooter (although a rather large one..)

I figure I need a bike that is reliable because I ride to work. I'm sometimes tempted to get a shifty, but then I look in the garage and decide there is no room...Coleman is smaller than a scooter, so I'm going to stick with that!

One more warning - Take off that green pyrex globe and protect it - only put it on for show or a shelf queen! it's not often that you get a bulged globe like that one - it would be a shame if it got broken :D

Be careful!! He does want to sell those things! You might have to make good on your offer (but(t) only if Kirk wants your butt in payment!!)

Sorry. Just couldn't ignore such a comment. So sorry. Where did he get that comment, anyway? I'm laughing my butt off just re-reading it! Sorry...I'll TRY to behave. 8)

Congrats on finding that nickel 242. I have a 1944 green font 242 that is my favorite lantern. Now if your 242 was made Sep 1950 I might try to talk a trade or something.

thanks Kirk. I would like to get my birthday lantern. I have a 220 that is B 1950. Seems there is no definitive opinion if there was A, B, C, D or A, B only. And it seems that there was some models that still used numbers for months. Rather confusing for that time they used letters.

And if I could get a 242 with the date stamp of 9 50, that would be the bees knees
