242B Brought Back to Life

Postby Loader » Sat Jan 07, 2012 9:45 pm

Reworked a 242B today, unsure of the exact date as there is only a "5" visible on the bottom of the fount.

Tried to keep this one looking the age it is, but clean..... It was pretty dirty, old mud from wasps, the collar was almost unreadable, and of course the bits and pieces were pretty nasty. The fount shined up pretty good, but still shows it's age.

Didn't come with the screws for the pump, so I used a clip for now. Hope to find the proper screws sometime.

Great job on the clean up!
I like to do the same thing and just get them going.
Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? Ask yourself these simple questions every time you are in doubt about any action.

242 is my main go to lantern when camping. Put a straight mica globe on it and it looks really old! Nice job! Doug

Nice one Earl. My 242b is by far the best burner I have.

I really like the this lantern with the Coleman logo embossed on the nickel font. I got a nearly perfect 220D at a garage sale for $3. Not nearly as cool as yours.

Cheers,

Gus

Yup, anyone can pay an inflated price on EBay. The thrill is in the hunt. I have about 10 lanterns and two stoves now. Paid $1 for one stove, $5 for the other. Never more than ten bucks for a lantern and usually far less. #1 wife asks: "How many lanterns do you need". I'll eventually drag nearly all of them to a gathering and offer them for about what I have in em. Just like them to go to a good home.

Cheers,

Gus
