Table lamps

Postby Woodbutcher » Thu Jan 26, 2012 8:49 pm

I had a couple requests to post some table lamp pictures. These are the ones I have. So far I have not found any shades. I have not tried restoring or lighting any of them either. I'm more of a camping lantern guy so these will come later. A couple of these were posted previously in a past thread.

Great selection of lamps you have there!
Thanks for sharing the pictures with us.

I like the looks of the one on the right of the 2nd picture. Have any idea of the age of that one? And what type of shade would they have? Would they be glass, kind of like the glass oil lamps they used (and alot have now been converted to electricity)?

I really don't know much about the lamps. Heck, I don't even know that much about the lantern! If I had to guess on the age of these I would guess 20's-30's and the shades were for the most part glass. Kind of a bell shape and about 10" in diameter. I'm still looking for a shade in the wild, Once I do I will get one all fixed up and then I'll decide what to do with the rest. Maybe I'll fix em up if the experience was pleasant if not they get sold!

Most double mantles will take the #21. But the new Colemans really suckuth. I now use the Peerless mantles. 2C-HG. The new Colemans so often develop holes right away. first firing for me. Just have to keep my old Colemans some place safe and get the Peerless ( or most any other brand )

Thanks Randy, I have not had any problem with the Coleman mantles yet but I can say for sure the new ones are no where near what the old ones were. All the old ones I've found I'm saving.

We live in an Amish community. They still use the glass lamps with those kind of bell shaped shades. But the glass ones they use only have a wick that burn a little hotter than a candle flame. But I wonder if those shades will work??? I will look around peoples houses and see if I see one of these. I have no doubt they are used on a daily basis around here. lehmans.com sells what I believe is a lamp like yours. It is called "Amish Table Lamp" that they want $189.95 for. There is also a shade called "10 " Coleman Amish Rose Kerosene Lantern Shade" which is what I was thinking about, but you probably should look at flea markets cuz they want $104.95 for just the shade. But do you think the shade of one of the lamps that has just a wick would work?

They probably are the same kind of shade. But that is way out of my price range. I'll try to find a picture.

The bug screen is cool. According to the guys on the Coleman forum that white stuff that is flaking off is asbestos. Somebody over there cleaned one up and painted it with VHT silver paint I think.

You've got some nice lamps there. It looks like a number of Coleman Quicklite Model CQ or Model C's from the late teens to 20's, then an AGM Model P67 from around 1916 with a Coleman 132A(?) from the 30's or 40's; some more CQ's and a Coleman model 117 or 118 (with a slant generator) from the late 20's; and a Coleman Air-O-Lite from the teens. Most of those should clean up nicely, and there's an excellent chance that they'll work again. Watch for stress cracks on the Air-O-Lite and AGM though. I'm trying to find a good fount for my Air-O-Lite...if you want to sell yours...

I've cleaned up a number of old lamps and got them working, the expensive part is getting the glass shades for them. Even replica shades go for big bucks these days, but the prices quoted above are pretty extreme.

Both of these half-frosted shades are replicas, the green ones on the Coleman PQ chandelier are probably not Coleman.

This is a replica or later production Coleman 329 shade on a Coleman BQ bracket lamp (I don't burn it with an original shade - a torn mantle can blow a chip right out of it):

This is a Sunshine Safety lamp, similar to the Air-O-Lite, but a little more clunky looking:

Get out your can of Mother's and go at one of these. In about an hour you could have one burning again!
