200A Generator help

Postby treemaker » Wed Feb 15, 2012 8:53 pm

I bought my 200a new in '79 and never used anything but regular unleaded in it. It hasn't been used in 15 years so i expected the
generator to be a disaster.
I soaked it in denatured alky overnight, and when i picked it up the spring and sleeve fell out on the floor.
I put the spring big end in first and the lantern worked good.
When i took my 220 apart the generator spring was in sleeve first so i turned the spring
around in the 200 and the lantern worked good.
Today i found a new 200 generator in a local discount store for $6.99 and the insert is in spring first in it.
So is the new generator right? Is the 220 generator wrong? Were they different? Does it matter?
I'm confused

On the 200a the cardboard tube has always been down on the ones I have,Slows the fuel down and keeps the tube farther from the heat of the mantle.

I once found a 200A or 242 generator in a 220E. It worked but man was it dim. So I used it as a kerosene conversion on a different 220E. Burns pretty nice and didn't have to try and change the jet. As far was which way the spring, sleeves go I do not know.

So does the sleeve go in first on the 220, or has someone put it in wrong?

I just took a 220 generator apart. The sleeve goes on the bottom.
