At least this seller let everyone know that it's a clone (fake) gold bond. If anyone tried to fire it up...that vent would look like a burnt marshmallow in a big hurry. Buyers beware.....that's a lot of expensive paint you're buying....If you want one like this...just make your own. Doug

Why would someone take the time and energy to restore something that is obviously a fake? (the fake gold bold in the other thread)

I would imagine because he just turned a 25$ lantern into a 150$ one. In the lantern collecting world that's real bad form, and someone that really knows the dates and what to look for will spot it right off. Many won't down the road, and while this guy says what it is...the next guy might not. Reminds me of a PT Barnum thing....something about a fool and his money...

For the chrome one at the top of this thread...I wonder just how many of them they produced and were they available for the general public or just "insiders" within the company? At 40 million lanterns back in the day (25 years ago) that this chrome one was produced, it's a testimony to just how many of these things are around out there. Doug

Ya know, I find it hard to believe that Coleman didn't lose count somewhere along the line! Sooooooo, someone is out there with the REAL 40 million-th lantern :applause: and the person that buys the lantern on EBay is being ripped off. :x

Food for thought.

Cheers,

Gus
