Kirk, I love to hear about the Bootfair. I have to tell ya I love the old lanterns. The older the better.
Recently I bought a 288. It was in peices with a busted globe. (It was on display at a flea market and some wind caught it) The main reason I bought it was because it came with a case. I bought a new globe and put it back together. Like new, I have to say the new stuff is not all junk like I thought. This thing lights easy with little flair up. It puts out good light. I had a chance a while back to trade for some peak 1 stuff but I was just leary of it. I didn't know. So I passed. I have been rethinking that decision. I am starting to like coleman of all generations. Looks like you got a real good one there.

I really like the 288. Like you I did not like the new stuff at first. The 288 and the Peak 1 backpacker are really great lanterns. Like you say easy to use and adjustable. I have even branched out into propane. The propane lanterns are great for my son who does not want to mess with coleman fuel but need simple bright light for fishing. Plus it give me another catagory to collect.

I am an organized hoarder. I have to be or it would not fit in my shop. Like I have said before I am selling some stuff. I just met with a guy who is buying a kayak from me.

So if you are that organized, what do you use your floor and work-benches for?

I use the floor and bench space to stack stuff on. I do admit it. Boats and Honda 70. You all are not my exclusive hobby. I know its a shock but I do have other interests.

Doug I really do respect you and your experience with the Coleman. But propane does serve a role. And it does give the hoarders an extra category to hunt for. And it is useful to some in our realm. Just sayin. Coleman Keepers rule! 8)
