Our New Acquisitions

Postby Oldragbaggers » Sun May 06, 2012 8:40 pm

So.... a few weeks ago we had NO Coleman. Then I found my first lantern, the 220K at a thrift store for $9, and look at me now.

The 220K was joined by a 425C stove (I can't find a date on it, but read the C's were made early 1960s) on eBay for $31. Lance cleaned it up, fueled it up, and it lit and ran perfectly first time.

Then today Lance saw this 275 on Craigslist. In it's original carrying case, never been lit, no not ever. The date on the bottom is 1976. It had 2 new mantles installed and 3 more bags in the case, along with the lighting tool. The lady that sold it to us said her parents bought it when she was young with the intention of family camping, which never happened. $25.

In the meantime, I had been bidding on a 288 from 1983 on eBay, which I didn't think I'd win because my top bid was only $25. Supposedly it's never been lit either. When we got back home from picking up the 275 I saw that I had won that one too.

Am I a "Coleman Keeper" now? When do we get our biker vests? :R

Very nice 425 stove....straight, super clean and a burner with some age to it! Well, done....same on the lanterns...nice to find something that you don't have to jack with, you can't beat a $9 lantern in that condition! Doug

PS...watch a large pan on the stove....you can scorch the paint on the box, it's fairly small, don't get carried away. Ask me how I know.

Nice finds Becky! Really like that 275 - I wouldnt mind finding one of those as my birthday lantern (12-82). There's an antique mall in Hanover with one of those 425 stoves, but its not in nearly as good condition as yours is.

I can't wait for my 220D from eBay to get here this Friday. :D

You were a Coleman Keeper from birth, you have just now come to realize it. I am still working on some kind of colors. It would be cool. 8)

I have a stove like that and really like it. Compact and it's a good runner. I agree with Doug it's easy to burn the paint off the sides. I've said it before and I'll say it again the "Turds are the best running lanterns in my whole fleet". They really make fun of them at the CCF (I secretly think they LOVE them, just don't want to admit it). O.K. gotta go back and finish up setting the campground in the back forty. We finished up the poly in the interior of DH's '61 Shasta Airflyte yesterday and we are going to be yard camping this next weekend. I just love our his and her's campers. Hmmm.... think i'll tinker with the Turd

Well, our Turd lasted for almost 40 years in the previous owner's house without being lit, but it didn't last 24 hours at our house. Lance had it lit when I got home from work tonight. He had it shined up like a new penny. Very very nice lamp. Turd Shmurd.....I like them too.

Welcome to the Turd Tribe!! Just another branch of the Coleman Keepers!!

I have a turd. I like them. Until this weekend it was my only working lantern. Before the end of the month I'll have a couple more working, in addition to the one Kirk gave me.

Congrats on your new found Coleman. You really found some nice pieces. Now you 'need' to get a single burner stove!! I love my 502, even though I didn't use it this weekend...I used charcoal and fire instead..but they are great little stoves!

You are now hooked..where are your Coleman jug and your cooler??? Don't have them yet? well, get busy!!

I have actually been checking out the 502's. Would like to find a nice one in a case. As for the jug and cooler, I'm planning a Yeti cooler. Wouldn't mind having a water jug though. Give me time, I'm just getting "fired up" so to speak.

We got our 288 this week that we bought on eBay. All i can say is WOW. It's 1984, but had never been lit and is absolutely mint. I like it because it's quite a bit smaller than the other two so I think that's the one that will live most of the time in the teardrop.

I know the 288 is not vintage but it is a great lantern. I really like mine.

It's really cool!! It will be vintage soon enough..things that are 25 years and older get sold in antique stores. I think it's vintage..some people we camped with at the Dam weren't even born when your lantern was made!!

I like that lantern. I might have to look for one..just due to the size...

maybe I need to check ebay...lanterns, 502, etc. I'll just look. No bidding..just look.
