243A Lantern found

Postby Sonoma ZR2 » Sat May 19, 2012 12:20 pm

I found a 243A Lantern at a garage sale for 5 bucks it was rattle canned a lime green the bottom show's that it was blue. Anyone have an idea what color blue it needs to be and what vintage globe should be on it? The date on it is Dec 1950.

From what I can find I believe your 243A is a 1940 not 1950 by 1950 they were useing 2 digits for the year.
As far as the correct globe it should be a large green strait line "Coleman" not sure if it would be a buldged or strait sided globe.

Nice collection. I still have not found a 243A or the yellow clamshell case in the wild. At this point in time I am starting to get kinda picky about what I buy. For some reason I worry that the TV show hoarders might show up at my house and film an episode about all my vintage colleman stuff. Me: "NO you can't take that, it's still good for parts!" "Hey that is worth money." "I am going to fix it up and give it away ." :D That stuff has a tendency to multiply... fast.

Slow the yellow clamshell case for the big hat are not rare. I have two and I see them at flea markets all the time. The trouble is everyone wants about $20-30 for them.

With flash after a quick clean and wax.The flash makes it look a lighter color.

Nice lantern....see how much more vintage they look with a mica shade! Mica shades are also fairly durable, they actually will flex and can take a hit. My amber globe on a 242 broke. Doug
