They have been made sense I believe 1932 and right here in the good ol U.S.A in Bradford Pa. I did the Zippo thing for awhile,Got hooked when I did some work there in Bradford back in the late 90's right around the time they bought Case knives.
Vintage yes,Camping not really.

How bad do you want them to be vintage camping? We have my FIL's Zippo that he carried while serving in Europe during WWII. He did spent a lot of time sleeping in the woods. But he never referred to it as camping but you could stretch a little.

You are just trying to justify your obsession with Zippo lighters.

There was a thread about unusual collections in the General Discussion area. Maybe you could bump it and see if there are other Zippo nuts around. You just never know. I found out a few days ago that one of my tiki collecting friends built a teardrop. Had no idea. I sent him to the forum. I know he checked it out because he figured out what my screen name is. So you just never know who might be a secret Zippo nut.

Maybe you can convert people and spread the good news about Zippo. How it's the best lighter (and most fun) for lighting your stove or something. Pretty soon you will have the Zippo Keepers going. Or a subset of the Coleman Keepers. Or a subset of the Coleman Keepers, 200a Gang, Zippo 'hood.

I know..don't get Kirk started, and don't give him caffeine... :o

My oldest brother, deceased, was a HUGE fan and long time collector of Zippos. He had hundreds of them and 4 showcases of display quality ones. His wife was also into it and they had more Zippo china cabinets than one could ever use in a lifetime. It was always an easy buy gift for his birthday or Christmas. Yes, I fed his addiction....I mean collection. My Mom/Dad have some too. Guess that's one reason my bro got hooked. Kirk, next time we camp together we can swap Zippo Tales!!!

I allways have a zippo in my pocket, because one never knows when you might light up a cigar. 8) 8)

Mom still has some of the collection of my brother's, and his wife took part of them......but the WORST thing was that 3-4 days after he'd passed someone broke into his house and stole a whole box of Z's that my mother had packed up to take to storage, along with much of his NASCAR memorabilia (stolen also)v v :x :x Mean folks to rob a dead man's home. So, Mom & Dad have been saving for a rainy day, or a good cigar! :x :tipsy: :FNP

Thanks for sharing that story about your brother Joanie. Its a good way to remember him. ( The collection , not the break in)

Dragonfire - I did see the thread on odd collections but I like it here in Vintage Camping. Its like Cheers in here. And yes I am trying to justify my flicker of OCD. Looks like other here strike the Zippo.

Coleman fuel is basically Naphtha - the same as the Ronsonol lighter fluid
