Shopping for fun

Wandered around some thrift stores and antique stores today. The antique mall had some nice stuff. Found a couple of Featherlight aluminum water jugs for around $15 each. I also found an old Coleman Quicklight in nice shape The mica globe was intact and the nickel on the fount and vent looked good, but it was missing the pump. I did, however, find in another booth a couple of lantern pumps. IIRC the lanters was $34.50 and the pumps were about $10 each. I also found two waffle irons in decent shape for $55 each. No, I didn't buy anything. I just like to go looking in hopes of finding the elusive waffledogger in the wild. That was the first Quicklight I have seen in the wild and I must admit that I was tempted.

It was hard. especially with a pump just a few booths away.

I wonder which pump you would need. The two they had were different diameters and the business ends were slightly different shape. I am reasonably sure that the smaller diameter one would be correct for the Quicklight. Both of the pumps have been there for quite some time. I have seen them at least three times in the same spot and I only go there about once every two or three months. If you want to try one or both, let me know. I could go get pics and if you want one I would pick it up for you. Both pumps need the leathers replaced but were otherwise in good shape as far as I could tell.

As far as external pumps go the only thing I have seen is my 4A Iron. I have no idea which one it would take. Of course there is a stove on fleabay right now I am looking at that takes a pump. What would be the odds they take the same pump.

$10 seems to be what a pump in usable condition goes for.

I would think the odds would be pretty good. If they were all close in date, they would probably be more likely to use the same one than not. My guess is that the larger pump is intended to work with a larger tank. Move more air to build pressure faster. Either would probably work one just requiring more strokes to do the job.

The irons do have a real small tank. but I am use to pumping a Petromax.

And I have one that pumps pretty good.

All joking aside I need a pump too. Not sure of the lanterns stats. But I will check.

I really can not tell what pump fits my iron. I think the one that is like a ball is probably it. I would imagine a small pump as you can see the tanks on those irons are small.

That iron looks like one of the last gas irons Coleman made.
