Bass Ackwards KS First Shot Design for a 40" Wide?

Postby KevinS » Sun Aug 10, 2008 5:59 pm

Based on a small 40" wide by 6' 8" long utility trailer that used to be a small popup.

It's designed for a single person and meant to be ultralight, and pulled by a Toyota Corolla with a max tongue weight of 75# (that's why the A/C is in the rear).
The sides are 7' 4" by 3' 6". I'm thinking the height might could be reduced a couple of inches.

I already see the A/C will have to be raised, and I misspelled 'tongue'.

That's not bad for your first pass.

You'd better lay in your fender, so you can see if the door is going to clear.

And yes, raise up the AC, and push it in a little bit too. This might be a good time to see if a petcool is in your future! Or consider going a full 8' long.

Thanks!

My stroke left me weak in my right arm, so I'm thinking a fixed A/C might be best for me. I don't want to be lifting an A/C unit each time I set up camp.

Very good idea about the fenders, thanks.

Any idea what another eight inches might add to the weight?

That's hard to say without seeing your construction techniques.

My Escape Hatch was 800 pounds, so that's 80 pounds per foot, just roughly of course. But using that as a starting point, then an extra 8" would be an extra 54 pounds.

Kind of a "backwards" teardrop! Interesting design. The one thing I would consider is the slope in the front. This design might require you to scoot in and out of a sleeping position to avoid banging your head, and it might preclude sitting up reading at night. That might not be an issue, but thought I'd point it out. It kind of depends on how you construct that nose piece.

BP Tents.....

Postby SuperTroll » Mon Aug 11, 2008 7:58 pm

Many Backpacking tents are designed the same way....when you sit up your head is in the center of the tent....so getting in and getting out is not a real issue...sitting up for extended periods during rain or cold for example might be problematic....

I'm thinking a bed that operates on a recliner design..sit up and read the paper, eat, etc, recline to sleep.....just operate the lever and recline.
Keep thinking outside the box and all manner of ideas will become reality......

Eclectic: 1: selecting what appears to be best in various doctrines, methods, or styles
2: composed of elements drawn from various sources;

I had to look it up to make sure I understood! :?

Yes, Eclectic suits it to a tee! Thanks for the kind word!
