My Giant Teardrop build

Design & Construction of anything that's not a teardrop e.g. Grasshoppers or Sunspots

Thing is, I kind of wanted to have a rail around the deck, and with these "fold outs" I'm not sure how to work that out. I could have a removeable rail.....

so why not a DROP rail...hinge it..lock it in the UP position with a pin, pull the pin and fold it down /(Out) level with the deck when you use a slideout....?
Keep thinking outside the box and all manner of ideas will become reality......

Johnny, you could do something like this for the deck in front. This is a front view with the blue being the deck surface, the red is the extensions, etc.

Image

Of course you could scale it so that the extensions and the height of the railings match so that when it is folded, nothing sticks out!!! :D

Ok, I won't bore you with more pics of a plain black frame, but I do have a tip. We decided to use the Ospho for our rust conversion(thanks eddielbs) and it works just fine. But as with the others I tried, it turns black. As I'm painting the frame black it was a small problem seeing where I had already painted. So I used some gray primer first then the black paint. Small problem solved, I hope any others I encounter are as easily solved as well.

More baby steps tonight. Frame(on the bottom) is ready for paint, and reassembly. Sparks before sawdust...I'll be glad when this is over, I'm more comfortable with wood.

Boy are you preaching to the choir here. I can't seem to remember not to run my thumb over welds to see if my joints are flush.

Had a small rain delay yesterday, and still need to touch up here and there. It's coming.

Ok, here they are...with yet another question to follow...
Image
Image

Now for the question. This frame already had 12 holes in each side for axle placement, if I move the axles I could only possibly use 2 of the holes on each side, clear as mud?

Any way here is the real question, can more holes be drilled into the frame without weakening it???

Don't know where the existing holes are, but holes in the vertical plane are usually ok... too big a hole in the horizontal plane will weaken the member...

If you stick with the hole size they used (assuming they were factory done, not home drilled), you should be okay.

Hole location...

The holes they are in now look "factory" the others don't.
