Cliff starts a Grasshopper / Weekender!

Design & Construction of anything that's not a teardrop e.g. Grasshoppers or Sunspots

Postby Cliffmeister2000 » Sat Oct 06, 2007 5:26 pm

Okay! The weather is cool, and I took a week off to get this thing started! My brother flew down from Seattle to help me! :D

I decided on a 2x4 platform to enlarge the footprint. I bought some new trailer specific 14" tires and wheels, and we built the base.

Image

Image

It is now 63" wide and 10ft long, except the wheel wells. We made a good start for day one! Everything is Gorilla Glued and screwed! It is 63" wide so it will accomodate a queen matress easily. I'm guessing it will be 61" wide inside once finished (again, except the wheel wells), and I might make the bed sit above the wheels. We are kind of mocking as we go, so that decision can wait until another day.

Tomorrow, we will put the plywood flooring on and flip it over to tar the underside. Lowes had some dented 5 gallon buckets of fiber bearing roofing tar for 1/2 price, so it was cheaper to buy 5 gallons than 2!

:applause:  Now that is a neatly made tank hauler! It should be great to put sides on. I only used one gallon of roofing goo for my floor.

Thanks, Miriam!

Today, we put the floor in place...

Then we flipped it over and tarred its bottomside!

Unfortunately, my brother's daughter is having an emergency baby 8 weeks early. So I am taking my brother to the airport! If you pray, please pray for my niece, Laurie, and her yet unborn daughter, Lindy.

Okay, not related to TTT, but my great-niece is fine, at 3lbs, 9.25 oz. My niece is doing better, and should go home from the hospital today today. Soon, it will be time to get busy on the Weekender again.

How long does that roofing tar take to dry, anyway? It's been 5 days, and it still has a ways to go! Here in Arizona, most stuff is dry before you get done with it!

I decided to change my Avatar to more properly express my trailer. This is a test!

Okay, new Avatar is there. I was kinda hoping it would keep the old one on the old posts, but that was obviously expecting too much!

Thanks!

Tomorrow (Saturday), I will ask my neighbor to help me flip her over, so I can begin plodding away at some wall construction!

Seven months later, and many strange changes in my life that none of you want to know about, and I am finally starting to work on the trailer again!

She has fenders now!

I've been playing with the sides

and figuring out the angle for the galley hatch

I took this week off, and my brother is back down to help!

This is what she should look like soon enough!

Right side framing complete!

Testing on left side for symmetry

I guess I need to measure the height. It would not be good if I couldn't get it out of the garage!

Pop the latch on your automatic garage door opener, push the garage door all the way up, and you should be able to get it out!

It took 1-1/2 days to build the frame for the right side. It took 3 hours to build the frame for the left side. She is coming along nicely!
