Extremly non-tradational (in the USA) water camper

Design & Construction of anything that's not a teardrop e.g. Grasshoppers or Sunspots

Postby Steve_Cox » Tue May 05, 2009 9:24 pm

Hey! I just got back from camping too! Managed to feed the ticks, skeeters and chiggers for a few days. Hope we can keep the water camper spirit going!

By the way everytime I read one of your posts it makes me homesick. We moved out here from St. Augustine two years ago, my daughter still attends Flagler. Maybe I can look you up when we go back for her graduation.

Flagler College - it's a beautiful place. Let me know when you are coming.

Look no further Steve, here's your aluminum barge and trailer. This has been hanging around here for quite a while so I think no reasonable offer would be refused. Maybe something along the lines of Cleopatra's Royal Barge? Paddle like an Egyptian? - or perhaps an old time Ohio River pole boat? Any volunteers w/poles on the forum? Let's help Steve out guys and gals.

 Pirate ship......

That's a big trailer too... enough iron and axles to build a TTT with the leftovers.

7' wide and 30' long..... Lots of room for a front and a back porch.... I mean "deck"

The Aqua-Casa by Berkeley-Engineering.com comes in several sizes and might even qualify for the spirit of of a TTT. Good ideas for the interior layout. YoHoYoHo

Berkley Engineering - Now that's a flash from the past

I built a Berkley Can Do E-Z back in the 80's, pic below from his website. Glad to see he expanded his line of boat plans.

Holy cow, Rose is a teenager now! Done? Surely you jest. A teardrop is never "done".

Click the pick for all of the picture files. These are oldschool plans that I believe I still have full sized images if your interested.

I had big dreams of building this thing... It never materialized. I was going to round the corners of the cabin.

Image

Its actually supposed to be a man powered day sailor. A bicycle frame is supposed to be mounted inside and you pedal the paddle wheel. I always wanted to either incorporate a small outboard, or trolling motor, or an electric motor to run the paddle wheel, eliminate the bicycle frame and do exactly what your thinking. The cabin is already big enough. 8'+ long x 5'10" wide.
Image You know a man is on the level if his bubble is in the middle.

Hmmm, a paddle wheeler

There was an old fellow that lived in my neighborhood that was building a small paddle wheel boat for several years before he died. I always wondered what happened to his unfinished boat. He had named it the Manatee Express.

Think I found the boat hull for a water camper build. 23' Carolina Skiff Hull. Think it was once a mullet boat. Price is $600, and I have a friend with a trailer. Now all I need is to convince ol' what's her name that it's a good idea, and figure out where I can find $600

The Carolina Skiff will pound your fillings out and soak you to your skivvies at speed but will bob-along merrily at houseboat speed. Looks like the sides aft have been cut down which may be to your advantage. Are you thinking of epoxy or polyester resin for the build? I've been reading that much of the pressure treated wood at the BORG is straight grained fir under the goop. Reuel Parker, a big time sharpie builder down your way has been using it for stringers, floors and trim and it looks good on his boats. Can't wait to see the paddle wheel turning and steam whistle blowing. Any volunteers with musical/dancing talent want to sign on to Steve's Showboat?
