Clif your weekender is looking great. I like the way you made the hatch. Looks like an easy build that way.

Thanks, Miriam. I "Built it in place". It seemed to work out well. Of course, I built the weekender type because the curves scared me! I'm more fearless now, and if my wife will let me, I might build a Benroy next. :)

Minor progress since the last post. Been too hot to work very long in any given day! This is her first glimpse of sunlight!

Today I fitted the doors on her. Not as perfect as I hoped, not as bad as I feared!

Postby Jeeper92 » Mon Jul 28, 2008 10:33 pm

Wow !! Looks great!! I wish i had the courage to build a weekender or any trailers with a hatch. Im getting ready to build an off road weekender with not hatch, with a side propane tank outlet for cooking.

The reason I chose the weekender is because the curves scared me. I have learned so much while building this thing, I'm considering building a second, but with curves!

Mine is extra wide and extra tall (kind of like me), and it is amazing how much more plywood it takes when going over a 4' x 8' profile. I will probably start a small one as soon as I finish this one. I'm hooked!

Cliff, that's really looking great! You're really making good progress! Do you think you'll have it 'campable' before summer's out?

Me too....

Same here also....after sitting in my hopper, I've realized I probably could have dropped the profile to 4' and still had plenty of headroom...oh well

BTW, what kind of door latches (and where'd you get 'em) are you using. I really like the way they look.

Build on! Build on! Keep up the fine work! :applause: :applause:

Hello, Richard. I doubt it will be ready this summer. It's too hot here in Phoenix right now to work much per day. But my shedule says I will be applying CPES in two weeks!

I found them on eBay. The original teardrop I bought and then tore apart had a bad habit of popping the driver's side door open while driving down the road. Of course I couldn't see it, so friendly motorists would drive up and point it out to me. I went looking for a strong latch. These are for a motorhome, made by FIC. just look for Trailer Latch on ebay, you will get a couple of hits. I wish they were keyed alike :(

Forecast was for 113º today, but it only got to 103! I worked about 6 hours on the weekender. Got the outside of the galley skinned (but forgot to take pictures, and I don't wnat to flip it over tonight).

Also got the trim detail done inside the galley hatch!

I've been fretting over the seal along time now. Got an idea today!

I used 3/8 instead of 1/4 ply on the section of the top the the Hurricane Hinge fastens to, and added a piece of 1/8" thick strip along the leading edge of the piece the ply gets trimmed to match.

Adds enough for the seal in both directions! Of course, now I have to sand this new piece to match the roof profile.

Cliff you are doing a great job on your trailer. I wish I could say the same for my trailer.

I like it and you are doing a great job of detailing the build. :applause:
