Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Hi all,

Since I'm building a grasshopper style trailer I've decided to move my posts to the Non-Traditional forum.

This weekend my friend Dave and I were able to spend another day reworking the boat trailer into a grasshopper frame. We reached a milestone in the trailer rebuilding since we were able to cut off the front of the boat trailer to make the 5 X 10 frame. The front cross member was welded in place so it is really starting to look like a trailer.

Here's a picture of where we left off.


Now I need to start building the tongue. I'm considering a removable tongue to make the trailer easier to store when not being used. I could also remove the tongue to ensure that the trailer doesn't get stolen.

There I go, over-engineering it again...

You're not going to regret building it 5' wide.

I can't remember, what are you putting on the outside when it's done? Paint? Aluminum?

Hi Bev!

After reading this and a couple of other teardrop forums, I just knew that I wanted a "wide" trailer. I have a couple of small dogs that will be doing some traveling with me so I need the extra width. ;-)

I haven't decided how I'm going to do the outside. I'm torn between aluminum and fiberglass/paint. I guess I'll decide as I go along. I think the fiberglass/paint route would be more forgiving of getting scratched out in the boonies.

"Coming weeks?!?!" I'm hoping it's done in the coming months! :-)
