Cool design

Postby Tiki Dude » Thu Oct 25, 2007 12:00 pm

Check this one out. I sold the Tiki Hut several months ago and now I am looking in a new direction in regards to trailer design. I like this one. It can be made quite easily with minimal cost.

Tiki Dude,

That is a cool looking design. 8)

Wonder what it would cost to make one.

I priced the trailer at Lowes--$498 The pop up ranges anywhere $900 to $2600 from various brands. The storage box ?????

Anyway, it would be a fun project, and a great camper.

I am currently working on a houseboat, maybe when I am done with the boat I will tackle this.

You should check out this forum that deals with expeditions. There is a specific trailer section.

Looks to me like an old military trailer that went behind an M-38A1( aka CJ-5) I can't remember the designation for the trailer. For not remembering I am going to go have a punch put into my Jeeper card. Very cool though.

edit: M-416 is the trailer.

M416, IIRC. If not, my jeeper card looses a notch too.

You got it. I kept thinking M-415 or M-475 but I knew both of those were wrong.

Here is a design along the same lines we're working on right now. The idea is a rolling camp box, it has a kitchen/galley area with organized storage and counter space on front and a general storage area in the rear. The tent unit mounts on top and can be used without unloading the trailer.

Here is the mockup with a couple of different tents on it

Here are a couple of build pictures. Will start filling exterior screw holes today and will start on sealing the inside tomorrow.

Chris, if you're down Corvallis way, stop by. We normally have a couple of Tent Topped Camping Trailers around to check out.

Thanks Scott,

That is exactly what I was looking for. Are they on a 4 x 6 trailer? What are the tent prices?
I get down to Corvallis every once in awhile to play disc golf, I'll look you up when I am down there.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Yes, it's based on a 4' x 6' trailer frame. We've been working with Magenta trailers on a special version of their 4' x 6' bolt-together square tubing frame for this new trailer box.

The green tents are normally $899 for local pickup or $819 + shipping. Right now I'm reducing my inventory for the winter and have a couple I'll let go at $775 (local pickup)

I'm still nailing down pricing on the blue tent, look like $950-1000 + shipping.

Check out, http://www.cttct.com/TentUnits.htm for additional tent details. You'll also find contact info on our website.

See, I knew there was something/someone on this list with that tent camper idea. I thought it was on another list/forum and I couldn't locate the idea on it. I should have known it was this listing.
