so here are the 2 designs I have been working on. both are based on the weekender design (thank you by the way for posting that info, it really helped).

I would appreciate any opinions you guys have on these designs. I am going to build it on a 4x8 trailer either custom built or a harbor freight. the biggest challenge we are going to have is that I want to be able to remove the camper shell so I can use it as a regular trailer if the need arises.

Anyway, thanks for your opinions in advance. I won't be starting the build until about the end of May or early June when I finish college.

Option 1:

And option 2. The only difference is in the hatch. this one uses a more traditional style with the larger one piece opening.

The gallies look different, but really I haven't decided yet on what it will look like. From what I have seen, for every teardrop there is a different galley customized to be what the owner wants...

Nice work. I'm always up to give my opinion.... I perfer the one piece opening. It gives 2 less seams to seal from weather, and gives less obstacles to move around while setup in camp. Ask for my 2 cents and you'll get exactly 2 cents worth.

How much distance do you have between the front overhang and the tow vehicle?

I honestly don't know because I don't have the exact dimensions of the trailer yet. This was just a model that someone posted on the sketchup website and I am using temporarily. I can tell you that the front part of the shell overhangs only 16". It looks bad in this picture because the trailer's tongue is only 30".

Thanks for the advice so far guys. It will really help us out when we start the build.

Take my advice if you can jackknife the box into the tow vehicle lengthen the tongue right away. I crunched Chubbys lexan roof in a moment of stupidity. Ira has a pic somewhere where he crunched a corner out of his tongue box. I will be installing a longer tongue this spring. My tongue weight is 2 fingers at level 10 maybe 15 # and its just not enough at 65 the tear wants to dance a bit. Below that it tows like a dream.

Hi Keith,
Welcome to the forum. IMO I like the three piece hatch. True, there will be more seems to worry about leaking, but it sure helps when you're not good at cutting curves.

Good luck with your build.
