Well, maybe it's not quite finished yet. And maybe it's been a couple of years since I last worked on it. That's not really correct, I recently dismantled it to make this:

Compare the size of the same young lady in the two pics. Yep, it's been a while.

Oh, yeah ... forgot to mention ...

... the Modernistic/Cub/Modernaire/Marvel-Dwyer-types are Traditional Teardrops! ... dating back to at least 1945-46 ... :thumbsup:

Thank you Grant. That is a picture I was looking for.

Let me explain.

My wife and I travel every summer all over this country. Last summer we started in Ohio to Cody then off to Yellowstone, Vegas, and Phoenix and then back home. We stayed in hotels and that can be rough do to price and availability. Any ways last summer we spotted a teardrop on the road and the lights came on. . I have been reading up on them and lurking around here since last summer.

Anyways the financing committee < the wife > has given me the go ahead to build a tiny trailer. The one I like is a cub modern style she likes the Ben Roy. The question is this.

Using a ford edge at the tow vehicle pulling a 5’ wide 8’ trailer, which body style is going to give the best performance in gas milage [ drag ] ?

Well, Doc ...

... there are a lot of people who will tell you that simply because that typical teardrop resides in the slipstream of the tow vehicle while motoring down the highway, that the shape of the front of the teardrop doesn't affect MPG. I, however, respectfully disagree ... backed up by some measure of experience! I've got a slightly customized Saturn SL2 Wagon with an automatic that I use as my usual tow vehicle, and when I towed that little number in the pictures to Dillon Beach in '06, I averaged 26-27 MPG ... my current personal teardrop is a Li'l Bear/KIT-morph that has the typical KIT and Benroy flatter front-lower profile, and I average 25-26 MPG with it. That might not seem like a lot of difference, but we're talking about a car with a four-cylinder engine, and over the long run, it'll mean less stress and wear & tear on the engine when I finally get 'round to building our 4.5x9 version of the above teardrop. I've got plenty of other examples, but this one's good enough to illustrate my point for now ...

Bottom line, though, is that with your Ford Edge and the trailer being 5' wide, you might not notice any difference in MPG. The biggest difference you'll most likely have to deal with is in your relationship with your CFO if she doesn't get her way ... :lol: ... :lol: ...! I'm lucky in that my CFO and I both agree that the Modernistic profile is one we both like very much!

Hi, repete!

What I can do for you is trace out a 10' version (original), and then you can shorten it up and smooth out the top curve. I can tell you where to place the door and axle centerline. This I do for $35, S&H inc. If you want me to do the shortening and smoothing and door & axle relocation for you, it's a minimum $35 extra for the "morphing".

Yes, I do have a template for my 8 footer, above, but it includes some proprietary tweaking that I'm not willing sell ... sorry.

Check out Andrew's New Lightweight Cub ... might just be the ticket for you ... :thumbsup: ...

HMMMM... If 120" is 8' I have a bunch of customers that won't be happy with me if they measure the garages I built for them. :? :worship:
