Toyota Corolla cut in half-making into camper

Postby TerryWal01 » Mon Aug 10, 2009 4:46 pm

I recently acquired a older Toyota Corolla that had been cut in half and used as an enclosed utility trailer. It is pretty neat looking really. The hood was welded onto the front to cover the huge hole and it fits perfectly. The car was a 4 door wagon and was cut right behind the front seat supports. The back two doors still function perfectly as does the rear hatchback. I have always loved tear drops and have lurked here for a while. I dream od building one day, but really lack skills. Sooooooo....the half Toyota is going to be the first. The interior is all bare metal except the headliner is still intact. I'll be insulating and building starting this weekend with many photos to come. Since it is a Toyota cut in half, my kids have named it Yoda!!! As a artist for a living, I guess I'll have to paint Yoda on it somewhere......

Terry,

I look forward to seeing pics of your progress... I'm still working very intermittently on my Neon/teardrop; put a small, round 12V exhaust fan in it this spring, as well as some 12V gooseneck maplights for reading in the evenings. One thing I added this summer worked almost better than I imagined---to get some privacy on the irregular-shaped windows, I got some film (like you see in the backglass of pickups) custom-printed with our own vacation pictures... printed up and installed by the local vinyl-graphics/sign place. My Neon's backglass and the two back door windows cost approx. $150... real easy to see out from inside, pretty good privacy from outside. Anyways, just my two-cents-worth. (I'll eventually add some pics of this to my album...)

Terry,
I finally got pictures updated on my album, including the ones of the window/privacy treatment--like this one:

So far, I'm real happy with this approach---by month's end, I hope we've actually camped in it a couple times, so as to be sure.
best wishes,
Gary
