Weekender style Gooseneck topper ideas please :)

The overall idea is this: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=315959 (btw, pirate 4x4 isn't exactly for the faint of heart)

I've got the same issue- toy hauler trailers are insane $$$. $80k for a 5th wheel big enough to handle a jeep? Crazy.

I'm planning on building this in 2 pieces: A sleeper area on top of the gooseneck, and a 10' box on the front of the trailer for a kitchen/shower/toilet/ ect. I want the RV box to be removable in case I need more deck space for a project, and still have a usable sleeper.

So, i've got a footprint of 8' wide x 9' long to work with, and a couple of goals:
I can push the length to 10' by way of a 45 degree corner on the bottom (just like the weekender).
Max height is 52"- I want the max overall height to be 11', the top of the gooseneck is 80"
Rear entrance
No need for a rear galley- I'll build a simple galley in between the gooseneck uprights
sleep 4 people

I think my biggest concern is supporting the roof- we get snow here in utah.
I'm not really sure on inside layout yet, i'm thinking it might be easier to build the shell then see what fits :)

Welcome StormRider. Pirate 4x4 is great. I sold my TJ so I don't visit those boards anymore

Good luck with your build.

I _love_ pirate.. When some folks get to arguing on "nice" boards like this one I just giggle to myself and think, "wow, this would go down in monumental flames on pirate..."

I like the idea of the weekender on the goose, but put the door in the back - so that your "RV box connects to the sleeper (It'd be like a truck camper) - if the RV box is gone, you get in from the back.

Pretty easy build(s) if you ask me, the WE is simple, and you're not gonna put in a galley. The box in back is just a box - you may be able to start with an old boxtruck body or a storage container.
