Wow, that is pretty much it, even has the three lines on the side, but the side doors are about useless, and it looks a little awkward for some reason to me. Maybe the height? Maybe nix the side doors so it can sink down into the bed as it should...

If you nixed the side doors, you'd have to build a door on the back; and, with that curve, it might be a bit difficult to do and have it leak-free. I'm guessing that you plan build a galley style door that has the hinge on top instead of the side? ...Sort of a Kampmaster style?

I have been to another website this gentleman has created which included pics of the Airstream/Sprinter (similar to the Canned Ham/Sprinter.) If I recall correctly, he mentions the base of the Teardrop camper has a fold down tailgate (below the rear hatch) similar to a conventional truck tailgate. This tailgate provides access to the original truck bed storage area.

Here are some options/ideas you may consider.

1) Eliminate the two side doors and replace with windows (slider or tilt.)
2) Use the rear hatch as access to the TD sleeping area.
3) Instead of having a single tailgate, split the tailgate (street-side/curb-side.)
4) Incorporate into the Street-side half of the truck bed/tailgate, a full length sliding drawer/compartment incorporating full kitchen amenities (similar concept to kitchen set-ups used in many of the Aussie Outback Trailers.)
5) On the Curb-side, create a full length sliding storage drawer on the lower half of the opening/tailgate with a telescoping drop ladder storage compartment immediately above the storage drawer. (Create a slide or catch for the ladder so the ladder remains attached to the TD Shell.)

With this set-up, you will halve a full size TD hatch to access the interior of the TD, full kitchen amenities, extensive storage area and an attached telescoping ladder.

Yes, I have seen the other threads that demonstrate your ideas as well as I can see your others in my mind, honestly, if I am going to build an in the bed teardrop it is going to be because I want to keep it simple! I agree and had already mentioned the first couple of points, but what do you mean about splitting the tailgate? My idea was to have my tailgate down to be able to make the camper longer, and also have nothing seen from the rear except for the trailer. So what do you mean about splitting the tailgate? I am interested

I went from the design concept of the builder of the camper in the pic I posted. If I properly understood his description, the area at the rear of the camper, (the white box looking area,) actually has a fold down door/tailgate, similar in concept to the OE tailgate on the truck.

My thought was to use this same concept, but split this door/tailgate vertically into two separate doors/tailgates (street-side/curb-side.) The vertically split tailgate will allow for two separate slide-out drawers. And, you have the option to have the kitchen extended (in use), and still have access to the sleeping area with the ladder in the lowered position (located above the curbside storage drawer.) Or, you can access the storage drawer, without the need to slide the full kitchen out with it. (Note: The slide out drawers would slide out lengthwise (to the rear) from the bed and below the TD, not directly out to the side)

Note, if the TD rear hatch was designed to cover the storage and kitchen drawer/compartments instead of having individual doors, they will be in-accessible anytime the person in the TD requires privacy.
