A Frame TTT ideas

Has anyone built or at least worked up plans for an A-frame type TTT similar to the Aliner? My wife likes these to have stand up headroom and low drag when towing.

I like the Rolite style, but four fold-outs look to be a bit much. I was hoping Andrew would put together some plans, but he must be too busy.

I wonder how the spring arrangement would be handled for either type. Has anyone thought about this.

Thanks for a great forum.

Don

Me too (hoping, that is)! The A-liner is a very attractive idea - it's hard to see how you could get standing headroom with less panels. I do worry that, while it can be designed, it might be the sort of thing that would require a prototype to get all the measurements, clearances and tolerances just right. Which is an expensive solution for a one-off.

This is a photo inside the smallest A-liner (the one that opens mostly at the back end):

That's a crop at the original resolution, so I don't have a better shot. I'm guessing the black blob at the hinge line is the coil of a coil spring, the other end of which pokes down into the body side.

Please post anything else you find as this info will be of use to someone, someday.

Here are two web sites for Aliner owners:

http://www.alinerclub.org/main_frame.html the Aliner Forum has some interesting info but I don't know of any construction discussions

http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/ali ... ta-frames/

http://www.popuptimes.com/ this site is for all pop-ups.

There might be some construction talk with more digging and research. I'm really curious about the spring issue.

Don,

Good post - there are several photos showing that it is a spring:
