Gypsy Traveler

Hi all,
I have been wanting to build a Tear Drop for a few years, and now I have the time, so here we go. In the process of deciding what design to build, I scoured this site as well as other sites looking at what others had built. I downloaded the Generic Benroy plans. Bought the 10' Comet plans and Steve Frederick's shop manual. I decided on using Mike Schneider's Lil Diner Profile, "thanks Mike". I bought a 10'x5' utillity trailer with 16" high side rails. I will be building the floor on top of the side rails and enclosing the undercarriage to make a 10'x5'x16" storage area for batteries water tanks camping and fishing gear etc. I also plan to make, or buy and adapt a 10'x10' tent to house a table and some chairs, so I will omit the dinette and opt for a queen size mattress. I have stretched Mikes design to fit the trailer, ending up with a 12'9" length. This added length will afford me the ability to add a hanging closet in the front of the camper. I will be making it a woody and adding some pyrographic artwork before the final glassing.
I would like to thank everyone that has contributed to this web site, as it has been invaluable to me in this process, and to Steve for his shop manual.

Wow, where did you get the idea of placing the floor above the rails? Sounds like a great idea. How high will the Teardrop be? I'm 5' 6" so I would need a step ladder to climb up in there and your galley will be up by my chest

You'll love the storage under the bed. We do on ours.

Take a look at my build journal and shakedown report to see how we use the space under the bed.

Yes, it is going to be too high off the ground to fall into, but I was planning on building teardrop shaped stilts to go with the camper, or better yet a teardrop pogostick that I can take a couple hops and i'm in. Just have to remember to keep the other door closed so I don't go flying out the other side! . But all kidding aside, I plan on making a light weight fiberglass step that will fit in the undercarriage that I can use at the kitchen or the door.
