My first build.

Postby ssj4jarrod » Sun Jul 07, 2013 11:06 am

My sister got me a tent trailer for $100. The canvass was shot, the raising mechanism has rusted through and through, so as of today I am tearing it down to create a unique camper. I have many fiberglass insulation panels from work for free, free windows, and the reseated and weatherstripped door from the tent trailer.
I have probably 100 or so profiles I've drawn, ranging from tiny houses to micro tears, I Have it narrowed to my top three we shall see which prevails
I will add pics shortly.

You have a pretty cool sister Jarrod, great gift . Wonder if she knows that she was feeding a potential addiction to building little campers? Looking forward to seeing what you decide to build. I like vardo type trailers myself. 8)

Tomorrow I am going to pick up my cleats, and plywood. The floor was not as bad as I was thinking, I will be able to save it. If you haven't noticed this is going to be a budget build. here in Canada we have a surplus supply store where I will be able top acquire many great deals.
My goal is for a tiny standy, with bunk beds and a small shower and potti. electrical at the moment will be kept to a dull roar, and upgraded as money permits. My goal is for a Solar powered trailer. with minimal propane accessories. I found a Dometic 12V and propane fridge for $50. will keep you all updated. Oh yeah I want to have a sleeping shell for Moondance Jam in Walker on the 17th  Wish me luck.

Sorry for the delay in posting, I am a tad tardy on the keeping up with posts and pictures. I was able to make her campable for the 17th, it pourerd in northern Minnesota and it held up quite well, no leaks!

I am going to epoxy the seams and figure what to side her with, she has twin bunks, foam matresses, the walls i covered with sheets for now, just to hide the studs :R
I have a few more windows to place, and do up some cabinetry, then side and paint it.

I as well need to put a curve or a V on the front, the journey used a fair amount of gas. She weighs in at 520 lbs at the moment, unladen. It pulls beautifully, tracks well and doesn't sway in wind. There is a few internal floor to roof braces not shown just yet in these pics :(

I am considering dropping the trailer frame a few inches, perhaps flipping the axel to lower it some... My Focus pulls it quite well, just the flat wind wall hampers my mpg. And prevents me from utilizing fifth gear. I can not wait to start adding to her, I am considering adding a 12V deep cycle for a bit of lights and cell charging. And to off set what I plan to do to the outside, a small porch with a small bench on either side of the door and extend the roof back about 2ft. I will put up more pics soon ;)

So the tiny house plan won out? Make the vee or curve into storage. Then you can say you planned it that way all along.
