Kurt's Slumbercoach

Postby klhoush » Wed Aug 24, 2011 10:30 pm

Hi All,
Today started with a 9' length of 2x2x1/8" tubing. I cut this down to 80" and re-painted the cut end. I inserted it into the inverted HF coupler piece and, well, I needed a sledge hammer to slide it through! The extension was checked for square and bolted in with grade 5 bolts.

Image

Here the floor is built. The perimeter is 3/4" stock and the cross members are 7/8" so the floor will be flat when bolted down

Image

Yes, I love Henry's emulsion!

Image

Done for the day after securing the floor to the trailer with 24 galvanized 3/8" recessed carriage bolts.

Image

Tomorrow the 4x9 sidewalls will be fabricated with the good side out.

:D Kurt

Postby klhoush » Thu Aug 25, 2011 4:20 pm

Thanks! I'm working on it. Need some cabinet ply for the bulkheads before I stand the walls. Pics tonight.

Got some hours in today.

Postby klhoush » Fri Aug 26, 2011 6:16 pm

This is what I saw this morning:

Image

Here's the profile:

Image

Time to finish the coffee and make sawdust.

Image

Rockler clamping saw guides work great for cutting the bulkheads.

Image

The first side is up!

Image

The lower bulkhead keeps things square.

Image

Spars going in.

Image

Done for the day.

Image

The ply near the front is keeping things square until the skin is on. I need to figure out the roof vent or skylight and cut some more spars when I get back from LA LA land next week.

Cheers, Kurt

PS Did I actually figure out how to post pics? Wow!

I like the profile of your door. I wish I had done something more interesting. I was afraid.

Looks good so far! Which Henry's did you use? The 107? And I'm guessing that is what is along the edge of your walls. Your panels look like mine, AC Fir ply? Keep up the good work!

Yes, the 107. As a home remodeler by trade I couldn't bring myself to use interior grade plywood so the AC will get a "natural" color stain to blend the grain.

I drove from LA to San Francisco today and saw a lot of Burning Man trailers and RV's. At least 4 on the side of the road looking at the tires or wheel bearings.

Well, how time flies. I finished my build just in time for our August trip and just got back from Fort Bragg.

So is Ft Bragg an army base? Here in NC we have a Ft Bragg, home of the 82nd Airborne.

Named after Captain Braxton Bragg.
Fort Bragg, CA is now a scenic fishing and tourist town in Mendocino County. Once the site of a major lumber mill which supplied lumber to rebuild San Francisco from giant redwood trees. Clear cutting decimated the redwood forest.
