First Build

Postby Dave V » Sun Oct 13, 2013 10:21 pm

Hey.
This is my first time ever building a teardrop.
I'll post my pics and do my best to stay current.
I started this 10 months ago so there will be a lot of material until I get current.
Thanks in advance for all the information I've acquired from this site.

Let's try attaching the picture file....

The frame came together easily. It seems to have a lot of give to it and I got nervous about bolt together vs welding...

Then I flipped the frame and made some measurements to move the axle back.
about 12 inches made for some nice even spacing and made room for the doors...
The frame drilled easy.

With the axle moved and attached. I started figuring out the floor.
My plans (which consists of 20-30 random sketches and ideas in my head) want the floor to extend to be a foot long off each end making it 5x10, thus making it an unusual dimension and making everything just that much more difficult. Then that looked pretty sketchy strength wise and I ended up reducing it to a 5x9 with 4 inches off the front and 8 off the back...

Using t&g subflooring, 1/2 inch thick. strong and will glue together nicely.
It's actually 3 sections of floor because of the 5x9 dimension. I put the seams over center of cross braces and made sure the tail end had enough support.
A couple of straps and pipe clamps held it tight while the glue set.
