My four minute teardrop build...

Postby tony.latham » Wed Nov 13, 2013 11:39 pm

Okay, it took me longer than that. I started July 15th with Steve Fredrick's Shop Manual for a guide, and my ol' trusty Hunter 4X8 sitting tear sitting out front to answer un-figgered questions. On October 6th my brand new 5x10 "Flash" was ready for her maiden voyage.

Here's my "build journal" video:

:applause:  :applause:

Please excuse me for not doing a real journal while I was cranking my new sweetheart out. Too busy cutting, gluing, and laying awake thinking about next-day's problem. Or at least that's MY excuse. Sometime soon I'll start on a custom tongue box for her that'll fit my shop-built folding solar panel set up.

p.s. I heard that scaly-looking guy buzzing in my shop one afternoon while I was working on the tongue jack. He'd found my scrap lumber pile... I don't mind 'em in the hills, but the shop's a different deal.

I shopped hard for a stove. I like using the one-pound disposable (but refillable with a fitting) bottles but didn't want to have it hanging off the right side of the stove like most current propane stove models. This one's a Primus Firehole and the rubber inlet hose comes out the bottom and sits in a groove that goes out the back. It was perfect for this install. The slider that the stove is bolted to has a 2" wide groove and the propane bottle is nested in the right rear corner of the drawer below the stove. Pull the stove out, turn it on, and snap the piezo. Coffee time. I've also got two extra propane bottles nested in holders behind the 7 gallon water jug.

I about wore out the Search Button on this forum during my build.

Thanks guys (and gals),

Inspiring! Thank you.

I've stalled, my shop is freezing. I'm going to get building again.

Thank you

Remember... it's hard to actually get an AVID to stall... besides, spring and camping season is only ten or so months away!

All I can say is:

Nice welds!
Great clamp collection!
Nice lunch!
Great musical selection

Well done. A video like this comes with an automatic indulgence for not posting as you built. Very cool!
