Decision already made. Sorry it's not the shuttle. However I am experimenting with something new to me.

Hi, Benny here, in hot Tx. I'm just starting my second build. It's my own design for special purpose use. Camping and rc model transport. My design is a combination of info gathered by lurking and using info provided by all the great people here on tnttt. all comments will be greatly appreciated. Ain't it great I'm 70 and I'm still learning new things. :D I started my build the first week of August this year. I'm not to good on computer :frustrated: but I think I finally figured out how to shrink Um! YES!!! if this is correct posting there will be more pics. HELP? how do I add more pics and comments to this build and keep them in ascending order???

I made a few mods to the trailer. I didn't like the bolt head above the frame. thanks for the comment. Benny

Nice solution using the FH bolts. I like it, even though it is not as thrifty as some of the other methods that are typically used.

Just a couple of concerns to share: the little piece of angle with all of those extra holes in it looks a little weak to be used as a main frame rail splice. Most people use the provided xmbrs nested inside to fix the main rails, then build their floor or wooden subframe to compensate for the missing xmbrs.

You probably have already checked for this, but for the benefit of others, something to watch for with flat heads is to make sure that the thickness of the gripped material accommodates the depth of the bolt head. If the start of the bolt head cone runs into the top of the threaded hole before it develops proper pretension while clamping the countersunk member, then the joint won't be tight or might loosen later under stress. Using a few more slightly smaller fasteners is one way to reduce the depth of the fastener head required for a given material thickness.

Thanks for the info. I did look at the post using cross member, and that is very good way to do it. It is not shown but I did add bolts to the spring support that joins the two side rails.

it looks like you used some bed frame for your splice. I used some on my build. and it was a pain in the butt to drill through. I think I broke several brand new 1/8" drill bits trying to drill into that stuff. I believe the angle iron they use for those bed frames is tempered.

I'm in the same boat as you as far as the Texas heat goes. what part of the Lone Star State are you? I'm over here in the super humid South East right on Sabine Lake.

Thanks for the reply. I live in Burleson TX, just south of FW. My plan is to use the CC to go to Crockett Natl. Forest in November. I had problems with the drilling to, it's tougher than I thought.
