I am getting close. I have just test fitted my hatch and now thinking of how to fit some gas struts.

The pictures show the inside of the galley and the inside of the hatch. Just wondering which direction is best to mount the struts. Hatch mount close to hinge or close to back of trailer.

The hatch weighs about 23kg (51 lbs) when almost closed. It has to open so I have 190cm (6' 5") clearance. At about half open the hatch weighs about 18kg (40lbs). To weigh the hatch I simply put a price of timber from back edge onto some bathroom scales. It actually surprised me how heavy it weighed.

Advice sought.

Thanks

Without being an engineer or understanding all of the formulas. It is hard to know how to get the right gas strut and where to place it for the perfect performance.
there are some good threads here on the Forum on this subject.
Good Luck with the rest of your build.

Found Dan Lott's gas Spring calculator. Now to convert imperial to metric.

I am under pressure here. Camping trip planned 10 January. Not registered. Hatch not finished. Trim for edged around hatch not available till 11 January so have to put something over them for waterproofing. Galley not finished. Will I make it?

Strop, here's the way I did my struts & they worked just fine. Basically, it's just cardboard for the layout & mock-up, a compass made with a stick & pencil, & information about the struts you will use (length open, length closed). Read what I did here & hopefully yours will work out the first time.

My Christmas wish for you, no Swiss Cheese of the build when mounting your hardware!
