Let the fun begin!

Postby clock152 » Sat Sep 26, 2015 12:52 pm

After lurking and wishing and drooling over all these sweet TD I have finally taken the plunge. I was searching for a trailer to begin my build and this little suck followed me home from Craig's List... stole it for $125! 4X8... needs a bit of work but not much.
Now what type of TD to do... I am leaning toward a weekender.

after taking the side rails off and finding out my cordless drill was dead I noticed that they had added a welded on extra 2 foot deck area to the front of it... not sure on how good the weld is but that would make it a 4X10....daddy's happy. I'll know more once I get the junk wood off of it.

What size did you plan to build?

I would like a 5X10 but this one will do. I got the junk plywood off it and this is what I am still left with... not sure that welded on part is going to be much use though.

I recon it would be ok,you could always redo the welds to the drawbar if they concern you, other than that should be fine.
The only thing you'll need to watch is your weight distribution .
Looks like a good trailer, springs and axle alright?

I may leave the wood plank deck on there... that is a bunch of bolt holes to deal with if I don't. also they make the deck level with the welded on section.

Why not.. or you could just use a couple of timber rails conected to your floor for spacers and get rid of the decking if its heavy.
What style TD did you plan to build

I'm going to assume the vertical lines I see on the "A" arms, near where the front crossmember is located, is just tape or something and not a weld. If a weld, then I'd beef up those sections at the join.

The trailer looks pretty darn good and that Rubbermaid box is what I ended up using on the front of mine, sitting on an aluminum deck, to hold the battery and the propane bottle for transport. I did not do a permanent mount for the propane as I figured why run gas lines that can screw up from the front to the back, when it is easy to just lift out the tank and put it at the rear of the trailer when I park. My deck under the box is about the same size as yours and gives me the ability to build a pirate chest facade, attached to the Rubbermaid box and deck.

I think you got a great deal on the trailer and you have a lot of possibilities. Probably far stronger than my HF frame.

Thanks... yeah that is just some tape and some string that I haven't taken off yet. I haven't gotten up under it yet but so far it looks pretty sound.
