First build "Rocinante"

I've been wanting to build a teardrop for a couple years now, ever since we had our oldest daughter. Camping was always a family summertime activity when I grew up and wanted to continue it with my own kids. Just picked up my NT 5x8 today and got the frame bolted together and squared, and axle attached.

Got the rest of the frame bolted together tonight. I'd like to run the 13" wheels like I have on my utility trailer. Any input on the clearance between the tire and frame? Is it enough? I'm not planning on skinning down to the bottom of the frame. It'll be wood sided, even with the frame width. Inputs?

Looks like enough, but keep the tires aired up well. Also, check for side-play under cornering loads, that's where you might have problems at speed. Major bumps on a corner might give it enough twist to push the top of the tire against the side.

If you had to, it might need a spacer or shim to change the offset a bit to get more room. Ours is a different type of trailer & has 2" side clearance. I like the 13" rims we run, just a bit better at highway speeds.

I got the floor built today, 3/4" foam between 2 layers 3/8" ply.

Vehicle wiring got done, bottom coated with asphalt paint and installed, and leveling jacks got installed. That should make it easier to work on.

"The mix" was applied to the edges, and the floor painted. I cut out the template for the walls with voids for insulation. Set it up the trailer to get an idea of the profile.

Got the walls cut out and trimmed, though two router bits suffered bearing failure before I broke down and bought the 1/2" arbor 1/2" template cutting bit with two 1/2" bearings. It cut much better that the 1/4" and 1/2" single bearing bits it replaced.

The ceiling is in, with much cringing and cussing with each creaking and popping off the Luan and difficulty getting it propped up while working alone. Built the gallery counter, and laminated it and the gallery floor with peel&stick vinyl tile. Coming together well.
