Rose Rolls - The unathorized Compass Rose autobiography

It's been a slow week for building. I got out to the garage tonight for a little bit.

The finished frame is clamped into position. The first piece of skin attached will determine the "set" of the hatch so, I wanted to take some time.
Image

The major part of skin is attached. The roll on top is my outer roof skin.:)

I removed the hatch to clean excess glue off and get pictures of course.

A little more on the hatch. I added a block to fasten the hatch handle and inboard light to.

I'll bet you didn't know RedTrailers made Teardrops, didja?

Power panels are in place. Gonna have to cram a battery box in here too. The Chief Designer (Exchequer of Accounts) has decreed a small microwave is needed in the galley.

Door held in place with, well ya know, door shims.

Image

All dressed up, and no wheels to go. The door looks much better on the trailer, rather than leaning against the fence I think.

Image

Golly, it opens.

Image

It even features an inner side.

Image

Ventilation function.

Check.

Image

I'll bet ya'll didn't think Rose had a right side didja.

Image

Hinge close up. I'll have to make some spacers to allow the trim to fit around the door and opening.

Yes, they are. I ordered them from McMaster-Carr. Heavy suckers too. Each hinge weighs a pound.

I also bought two extra lefts. My plan is to build a second left door sometime to mount a window shaker AC unit in place of the window.

Just a little progress today, I had other must do's to do.

The lower portion of the hatch frame was trimmed up and skinned.

Image

I've just realized the skinning is DONE. Here on out is just trim work.
:cheerswine:

My piles of sawdust have taken on a decidedly traditional appearance.

Great job! I still have a ways to get to that stage.

Also, nice job of getting the wood grain on the door to line up with the walls!

I've been to Florida and back today, and boy are my arms tired. So I had to come home and relax with the Rose.

I received my order of foam recommended by DBizer. I glued it to the roof with headliner contact cement. It went on lickity-split.

Foamed up Hatch.

Yes, I looked through the old posts but must've been on a different thread. Is this like a vinyl top?

C'mon, don't hang on my every post waiting for more?

I realized the vinyl roof just sprung up on this thread. I started discussing it here.

So, somebody is probably wondering what color this roof is going to be.

I hemmed and hawed on that for two month. I had finally decided to do a vinyl roof, but was kind of stuck on the silver diamond plate look Warpony has. I didn't like the $50/yard price, since I needed a 6 yard order. I was looking at the black version when it hit me to check tonneau cover material pricing. At $20/yeard it's much more palatable. So, I showed the Exchequer of Accounts the choice between the black diamond plate and black tonneau. She looked, and asked, "why not the cream white, to match your car?" I figuratively smacked my forehead. Duh, never thought of it.

BTW, It looks great. I ordered from Gary's Upholstery.

The hatch gets clamped up.

Image

Over the top. One edge secured, and ready to stretch.

Image

A look over the bow, before the fan goes on.

Image

I did a little more wiring in between waiting for the contact cement to get tacky.
