I started a build in Mo

...ask your questions in the appropriate forums BUT document your build here...preferably in a single thread...dates for updates, are appreciated....

Thank you for the link.

I was leaning towards soaking the plywood and then taking some ratchet straps and pre-forming the radius to make fastening
easier.

I enjoyed watching your build on oversized Benroy. The build helped me understand how to construct a TD. How wide did it work out to be?

That was a 6' wide teardrop... http://www.mikenchell.com/Baja_Benroy_Photo_Album/

My giant teardrop was even wider at 6 1/2 ft.: http://www.mikenchell.com/Generic_ET_Photo_Album/

Here is 1/4 " cheap luan over an 9" radius Just soaked it with boiling hot water with a towel covering it to hold the hot water and heat. Repeated often for about 10 to 15 minute and strapped it into place. Leave the straps on a couple days until totally dry and you should be able to lift it enough to glue underneath then replace it and finish nail it.

Wayne, I think I would use the rounded rear edge profile and put the large window on the left side. Just a thought.

Mike

Did you scarf (I think I spelled that right)the plywood in the side walls to join them?

Wayne,

No, I actually started with a piece of 5x10 plywood for the Baja Benroy.

But I butt joined the plywood together for the Giant Teardrop and put spars behind the joint to keep it together, as you can see in this pic...

Thanks Sam, I welcome all thoughts.

Nice dog house Bob. :)

Thanks Mike maybe I'm putting too much into this project. I’m really trying to make this simple and functional, and try to have it ready to camp in deer season. :worship:

Wayne,

You previously asked about hubs.

Your hubs look like 5-on-4 1/2. Five holes on 4 1/2 inch spacing. That's the standard. You can run most 13, 14, or 15" (diameter) wheels on them. The larger the diameter, the fewer times the hub rotates on its bearings per mile, the cooler they run and the longer they last.

If you don't already know, trailer tires (10-ply) radials are better than passenger tires because they are built stronger and are therefore safer. (An important issue on a single axle trailer with only two tires.)
:ok:

looks like you got some work accomplished.
Mine's being built in the heat under a shade tree too, so you're not the only one suffering.

Deer season will be here before we know it. I'm hoping mine's done too.

I know where that is. Many years ago I work for a handle mill as a truck driver. We had this ding dong saleman he would drive to the crazy routes and go all over the place. Mayflower is by Little Rock. I had to drive thru there to get to Russelville. Nice country. I hope you make it by deer season. I may not have the curtains up, but it'll keep me dry.

Wayne,
You're moving right along on your build. I like the name, too! Keep things rolling along.

hey Wayne/Eatatjoz,
Arkansas, I use to live in Louisiana and had a friend named"Caveman" that was from up on Joy Mountain--north of Little Rock. Went up for 4 days of wild fun--had a great time too!!! Those mountain boys left my beer alone BUT my stash of whiskey didn't last long   Caveman was friends of the guys that got lost in the caves for almost a week--they hit the nightly news because of the rescue.
