the total drop is around 16 inches. Went from a 15 in wheel with 30 inch tall tires to 14 inch wheels with 23.9 inch tires this is after fliping the axle to the top of the leaf springs lowering another 7 to 8 inches.
The wife first response to seeing the trailer lowered was : now we have a cute little trailer like Doug

Regards Mike

Not to be a nit picker but......
My calculations drop your trailer between 10 & 11 inches. You can only count the radius of the tires to determine the amount the axle drops. You have a difference of 6 inches diameter between the old tires and new. The wheel diameter is irrelevant. The centerline of the axle only dropped 3 inches. Add the 7 to 8 inches to that figure and you have a 10 - 11 inch drop. Yeah I know, what a picky sucker I am......
Now that we got that out of the way,

on the restoration job, the trailer looks AWESOME......

lowered

Postby mvperini » Sat Aug 14, 2010 1:08 am

Kevin
you could be right but it still looks cool 8) . before i lowered the trailer i could life the tounge with one hand and roll the trailer around with very little effort. Now the tounge weight has increased to the point it is very hard to lift let alone move the trailer. Question ? why has my tounge weight increased?

Thank you so much for the photos! My Mom's trailer that she is giving me is in similar shape so I really wanted to see how you tore into it section by section and replaced what was needed. I couple of pictures are worth 2000 words! Thank you!

rebuild

Postby mvperini » Thu Aug 19, 2010 10:19 pm

Did some more work on the trailer tonight
Trying to remove all the trim so i can lift the top metal off the trailer so i can install the new birch paneling, the guy that had this trailer before me must have had stock in a paving company
Every screw in this trailer had this stuff on it had to take a wire wheel and paint remover to get at the screws. :x

restoration

Satuday took the teardrop trailer and car to a local Car show, had a great time answering all the Questions... took best vintage. When i got home i decided to take the metal off of the roof so i could start woking on the trailer Sunday
Image
Started working on the trailer about 10:00 AM after taking the wife to breakfast and shopping

Had to replace both end pieces on the trailer along with some of the wood supports not bad for 8 hrs of hard labor
