Progress pics on the '32 Pontiac, please. There is no way that we are going to let you get away with dropping a bomb like that without more info.

I just tried to contact the former builder/owner to give him some updates, but the E-mail address he gave me is no good.
I was hoping he could send me some build pics. Darn.

After our last trip I decided the 4-cyl Wrangler just wasnt enuf to pull the tear anymore.
So after looking around for a few months I recently picked up a 99 Jeep Cherokee Sport . 4.0 inline 6 , Auto trans, 3.73 gears . Should tow it well. Big step up from my 89 wrangler . :)

We took the tear out with the new rig and it towed great.
I took (Parnald's) advice and lowered the PSI in the tires to 20psi on the dirt-road. What a difference , handled great and no mess inside. Being an off-roader I brought a air-tank to pump back up.
But our dog decided to cut our trip short so 5hrs later we headed home .(lame) :x
So he is banned from camping. (FOREVER).

Here's a pic of the new tow-rig on our last really short trip.
Totally beats the hell out of a 4 banger.

So I was suspoed to clean the shop but ended up working on the tear instead.
Today I pulled the lower leaf out of each side on the leafsprings . This should make it ride better on the dirt roads . (Thanks for the tip; Coleman)

Oh and bought new bolts to replace those pins on the front finally .

Should be doing a trip or 2 this winter. :vroom:

Nice project ,32 Pontiac. I did get a good laugh when I saw the Dodge Caravan seat in there. I just trashed
two of them. I like the vans because of my RC planes and the ability to carry plywood. I don’t need the seats.

Keep up the good work.

Funny thing about those seats. We had a bunch of them at work and nobody wanted em' so we threw em' away , then people started calling for them. ( I got the last good set)

Friday I was able to sew-up a new set of curtains . Those green one's were driving me crazy.
Pics when I get back from my next trip.

Re: Modstocks (Utah teardrop)--(trip report w/ video)

Postby Modstock » Sat Jan 05, 2013 2:18 am

Recently I took the TD on an expedition and covered alot of miles on dirt and saw some cool history about northern Utah.
Its called the Freeze your tail off trip. A Bunch of 4x4's head out to camp at the sun tunnels in the middle of winter.
( the winter solstice to be exact; Dec 21st ) and the world did not end.

First things first I had to do some mods to get ready for the rough dirt roads . So I pulled the lower leafspring from each side to give a better ride .
It helped a ton. I took it to work and it rode great even on smooth roads. Before it had a bounce that did not stop from a too stiff suspension .

I got tired of the green curtains and sewed these up . Its a more calming feeling with the tan curtains .

w/ straps.

Back to the trip:
After hitting a gas station near wendover I aired down the tires (TD too) 25psi to (again to give a better ride offroad )
The first 19 miles just sucked major washboards so i pulled over and took the tires down to 20psi (dont worry i brought an air tank) . That was way better and from there I could pick up speed. A few miles later the roads smothed out also. reached camp about 2 hrs later. Built a fire and hung out for awhile. Sleeping was cold . I couldnt get my toes to warm up even with a -5 degree sleeping bag so i jumped in the jeep and warmed up a bit then jumped back in the trailer. Slept good but it was 3 degrees that morning and all my stuff froze. Just had enuf water to get a cup of hot coco going. Then walked over to see the sun tunnels but the clouds prevented the sun from lining up with them. The sun tunnels are an art exhibit out in the middle of nowhere which line up with the sun twice a year. (google sun tunnels)
Back on the dirt road we hit the Transcontinentil Railroad north rail (on the backside of the great salt lake) and headed to Lucin then had 100 miles of dirt road to go before coming out at the Golden Spike near brigam city. Lots of history and ghost towns along this route . The teardrop towed great behind the chreokee and only minor damage was small dents from gravel hitting the front of the TD , a few screws came loose in that area also but nothing that cant be fixed. Next mods are a shield covering the front and some mudflaps .
here's a video . enjoy.
