A good day. Got the storage bins all set and started working on the galley design; I dry fit everything. It felt good to have wood in the galley, especially after ripping out all that aluminum that was nasty. I ended up working with all sorts of different designs sort of like working with Legos.

Windows.

Tonight I'm going to remove the aluminum angle pieces on the door and very, very carefully cut the aluminum to make the opening for the new windows. If all goes according to plan, I should be able to install them after that. My next step will be to apply the headliner to the door. That will be a good exercise in applying the contact cement and in my patience!

Hinge installation:

All, I'm installing a new hinge on my teardrop tonight. The old hinge was a simple piano hinge with a rubber gasket below it. The new one I got from The Teardrop Fix it Shop and it is one of those that will not leak!

However, my question is about installing it.

Here is my plan. Can you give me any advice I should or should not do to make it the best it can be?

1. I was going to clamp the hinge to the body of the teardrop. Under the skin, where the hinge will connect to the body of the trailer, I was going to place a 1 x 2 block of pine. (OR SHOULD I USE A HARDWOOD?) In between the two, I was going to lay a bead of caulk.

2. I was going to then screw (using stainless steel screws) through the hinge into the block of wood. This will anchor the hinge to the body/skin.

3. Lastly, I will put the hatch in place and will screw through the hatch into another block of wood which is caulked.

So, that's my plan. I guess the main questions are: pine or hardwood? caulk or butyl tape? Start on the body or on the hatch?

I truly appreciate your help.

A lot of progress this weekend.

I was able to 'rough in' the cabinets. I'm pretty happy with the layout.

You can read the details of the progress here: http://toddsteardropblog.blogspot.com/2013/05/galley-work.html
