Fan Explanation

We've chosen not to have a fan on the ceiling since we'll be putting in a "moonroof". Obviously, we still need a way to circulate air. So, what we've come up with is this...

Remember those 2 round holes we drilled in the bottom on the floor? Those will chamber up to 2 computer fans which will be in a box directly at the front of the trailer. In addition to the fans, this box will house all the switching for our reading lights, etc.

Basically we have a fan regulator which needs a 5V supply in order to turn on the touchscreen screen and the control. Also needs a 12V supply to power the 2 12V fans. The touchscreen module has the capability to select the speed of each fan individually as well as monitor 5 different temperatures.

Here are the 2 regulators. The input is going to be connected to the main battery and the 2 regulators are going to be able to regulate the voltage to create a 12V and 5V power supply.

Pieces of SS worm drive band clamps used for heat sinks is not a bad idea at all.

Can't wait to see some of the more sizable features of your build.

Update

Yesterday was the first time we were able to work on the build for the entire day and we got a lot done!

Since we are not using actual plans, this is how we traced the shape for the outside walls.
105140
We cut the sides panels one at a time using a jig saw.
105138
105137
There was a lot of sanding needed after we cut the side panels! Here's a before and after.
105135
Temporary support walls....

So, the side walls are up! Tonight we'll hopefully get the spares up.

Looks like you've put a lot of thought into your build. Don't worry about your timeline. The build goes faster than you might think. Also, don't be afraid to camp in it once or twice before it's "finished". You will learn a lot about what you like/don't like and what you need/don't need from actually using it. Keep up the great build and post lots of pics!

Update!

Finally getting around to posting pictures. We've got the spars on and skinned the outside of the "bumper" and the front. We are using 5mm board to skin the top which will be painted super glossy black and sealed with epoxy.

We've also got a LOT of the electrical done but I don't have any pictures of that yet. I'll try to get some up tonight. We're feeling pretty good with how quickly things are progressing. We've set a "campable" date of June 7!

Sounds neat. Where is all that air going to go? If you haven't, you may need to take a minute and model
the air flow. Think about how you want it to flow over you to cool the tear. I understand the moon
roof. I'd like one too. :)

Consider, you don't want a oppressive layer of heat near the roof of the unit.

There may be other ways to vent that air. Your inlet is in the floor. Can it be ducted to blow down
from the ceiling? I bought one of the 4" solar vents as a supplement to the simple rooftop vent,
which is normally closed. I don't know if it will be enough.

Sorry its taken so long for me to comment.

Thanks for commenting. We thought about ducting them to vent from the top but didn't like how it impacted our overall design inside. I went over your question with Greg and he says he thinks we may have to add 1 or 2 fans which pull air out of the trailer through the galley. So basically, we may have to add those fans in the cabinet inside to vent out through the kitchen. I guess we'll see!

Time for more pictures! :pictures:

We have exactly 1 month from tomorrow to get this baby campable! I'm OK with the idea that the cabinets in the inside and galley won't be completed but Greg isn't. He really wants everything done. I guess we'll see how that turns out! LOL! I'm just concerned about how long it's going to take to finish the outside. The side walls for example, we're planning to do SEVERAL coats of stain, CPES then clear spar. I feel like that process is going to take a pretty good chuck of time and we definitely can't camp without that being done. On that end, we did select the color for the side walls: Ipswich Pine. I opted for gel stain which I haven't used before because of the good reviews for vertical application.

Here's some pics of our progress so far. We're really hoping to get the inside skin on the front and one wall tonight. We've emailed Grant at Lil Bear to order the hurricane hinge so we can get started on the hatch finally too. There's a lot of electrical done but it's still messy so Greg's requested I wait until he cleans it up to post pics

Close up of the front and bumper outside skin. Just 5mm board which will be painted jet black and glossed with CPES.

Top edge is held completely with gorilla glue which we really didn't expect to hold so well!

Close up of the counter sunk holes for the spars.

The light outside the door. We looked for a really long time and didn't like anything until we found this at Lowes.

Thank you! It was a labor of love, that's for sure. We didn't have a pattern or actual design to follow so we just winged it. We actually put it up on the trailer after modifying it twice and hated it! We took it down and modified it some more before we finally got the right shape. I'm glad that part's over! LOL!
